Default I wanna buy an ATI x800pro

Looks like the guys at HardOCP have a retail card or at least one they say is an exact example of what will be in stores. Looks great and making my mouth water. The X800XT-PE looks insane but so is that price of $499. But so is the pro at $399.

I am itchin to push the buy button. What do you guys think about the card? When do you guys think prices will drop? Who usually has the best deals on brand spankin new stuff? I have never bought at release time, any suggestions or warnings?

Instant gratification is nice.

However, if you're a gamer, you'll probably be best served by waiting. If there is any sort of real problem w/ the card, it may not be uncovered until it's out there. Drivers may take a while to get up to speed, etc.

That said, I want one too. now.

But, I'm gonna wait. Since my rig is watercooled, I'm going to wait until at least I can get a waterblock for it. The fact that the new cooler doesn't seem to be cooling the RAM is excellent in this case. Possibly existing blocks will work. I don't want to be the one to find out they don't, however.

If you do get it though, let's see a review

Matt

Don't buy at release time. Wait until a refresh before you buy. (remember the original incarnation of the GeForce FX?)

Is it worth it's weight in gold or it is worth the wait in gold...

In this case, it will be worth it for you to hold off a bit.

The X800 Pro and XT look great and all, but I'm going to wait a while before I even consider buying one. I've grown wary of purchasing anything the moment it comes out. I prefer to buy products that have a solid reputation.

I read the se version of the card is only 8 pipelines but will be soft-moddedable to a xt with a bios flash and will have the 12 or 14 pipelines of the xt. I rather spend 200-250 on the se and soft-mod it.

Persoanlly I would wait to see what PCI-X version has in store or wait for R450 or higher. Along with PS3.0 and 128bit instead of 96bit with better compression.

These new cards are impressive but will they be totally absolete in 6months to a year with newer games and PS3.0?

Because NV40 has PS3.0 already set itself into foundation of future games using PS3.0

I ain't waiting. My BFG FX5900 just took a dump. I picked up a cheap 9800 Pro and Iit's gonna hold me over til June when the XT's come out. Then I'm getting one of those bad boys. Hopefully this story will have a happy ending.

I'm picking up a 9800XT when the X800's come out. I love new technology.

3 Questions:

1. Why did you go with ATI when you had a 5950 before?
2. What happened to the 5950?
3. Can I have it?
