No, you cannot replace a GPU. It is connected directly to the PCB. Have you tried removing the mods on it and running it stock?

I concur with neo, theres no way your gonna hot swap a gpu. If your still seeing picture, but your gettin problems id try looking at updating my drivers. I think for the ATI cards the OMEGA drivers (not sure just heard everyone talkin about em) might be the best for ya. If that doesnt work than id try overclocking the hell out of that thing and seein if it just needed a little kick in the ass to get motivated. Good Luck!

You may want to give it some better cooling...if it's acting up with artifacts, then it's baking itself right now.

And no, unless you are god, there is no way to do some GPU swapping.

I beg to differ.

You just gotta be REAL good. There are instructions on xtremeforums.com on GPU swaps and RAM swaps on the cards... but it takes time, skill and some neat equipment...

Cool So you dont think i have what it takes...?!?

Whoa i didnt expect this much feedback (or critisism) and for that i am thankful. But im well versered in most of the computer hardware that i own. I would like more info about where to buy it from and if ne1 would give me a link or two on removeing the mod i would also be very apprecative.

nono! by all means! we need every trump card there is for this lil number. I have a similar thread running in Other hardare modding about removing the VRAM,DDR AND DDR2 module on a graphics card. GPUs are similar to the BGA chips you usualy find on Raedon Cards. A heat gun is usually sufficient to remove them and put the new ones back on, but a GPU is deadly work - its a BGA chip, with 200+ more pins. The chances to shorting 2 pins together are far increased.

I think to even get a gpu separeatly is no easy job. even the most specific hardware websites dont stock anything so expert. Even if you were to find one, it will cost as much as a graphics card. Say $150 for a vard, the majority of that (say $100) will be the GPU.

And to add insult to injury, are you sure the GPU hasnt killed anyhting off with it?

First off Welcome to Pimprig...
How has the card been acting up? what are the symptoms?
What system have you got and at what speeds? cooling type? etc...
In order to get down to what's "really" going on with the soft-modded non pro, the above info is needed...
All this non-sense about a GPU and memory swap on a card that costs 150bux?...Whats the point?...
Let's determine first if your card is really fried, and then your replacment options, if nessasary...

Default This forum kick major arss!!

I think i have fixed the problem using fans and silver termal compound so im not going to worry about the gpu for now ...but the thing was when i would play ravenshield after 5 minutes my puter would just reboot and the card was as hot as hell ...so i removed the heatsink and old termal compound and put on the new tsc.....on top of that i upgraded my bios and it hasent gave me any real problems other than sometimes i get a scrambled screen(witch i hope isnt my gpu) funny thing is if i wiggle the card it stops..anyone want to take a crack at that i'll be listening ...as for the specs im runing XP w/sp1 512ddr 2100 ram 1.6 p4 on a matsonic MS9377C board soundblaster audigy ..ect..but thanks for looking in to my problem.

BTW if neone finds out where to buy a GPU let me know cuz ive looked almost everwhere

Luck in finding a raw chip. Not many places do component repair anymore, it isn't worth the cost. As for the cost of these chips to the manufacturers, you would drop your jaw if you knew how cheap a raw R350 chip is. Your talking something like $8.00 a piece. But you have to be in the right part of the business to be able to buy one. They are sold in bulk to manufacturers who have payed for the licenses to build the boards.
