| Apex Master Tech | Well I just remembered I have two video cards in my computer, an onboard AGP ATI Rage 3D LT Pro (i know, it's a mouthful), and a PCI Radeon 7000. I have a spare legacy (that means old ) apple monitor lying around, so I grabbed the adapter and plugged er in. Shock of shocks, there's no picture. Did a quick check on the device manager, sure enough the onboard chip is suffering from Code 10: cannot start.(Did some testing btw: monitor works fine, just not plugged into that output) After checking around, it turns out Microsoft has a KB article on Rage 128 chipsets not loading properly if Windows recognizes them both at once. You're supposed to install them one at a time, and then it will work. I removed the PCI card, and sure enough the AGP card installed without a problem. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to hide the onboard card from windows, so I can't finish the config (I tried installing the onboard, plugging in the PCI card, and installing that, but then it just goes right back to normal). So, is there any way to hide onboard components from the computer? If not, then this is just an advisory, to the rest of you people with outdated video technology. I was so excited, cuz I have even more monitors, and I've got a Rage 64 PCI sitting on my bookshelf...only two PCI slots in my POS compaq though, but for 3 monitors I could be convinced to live with onboard audio instead of the SB Live!

| Apex Tech God | Just disable your onboard card from the Device Manager.......did it recently on a new Dell that refused to use the new vid card I put in it. You could see the POST on the new card but then you have to plug the monitor into the onboard to see Windows. |
