I too noticed the same thing with my radeon 9800 pro. Since I was curious about it I looked at reviews of the card. There were several instances in which overclocking the card degraded performance, not imroved it. I really haven't the slightest clue as to why. It just doesnt make any sense to me.

Maybe one of the pimps here will have knowledge as to why that happens.

I'm gonna go out on limb here...

I am going to assume you haven't modifies the card yet, and it has stock cooling.

My first thought is that it is already near the limts of stock cooling at stock speeds, so when you push it for more, it kinda gets lethargic... Like a faster marothon runner that has to wear a sweat suit, he will lose to slower runner wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

The other thought is that old motherboard of yours, it might be saturated trying to go through a 4x AGP port, like trying to pour a bucket off water into a garden hose, when you were using a 8 oz glass before, thus it is more efficient to use the smaller container.

Sorry for the lame comparisons, but that is the best I could do...

im not going to attempt to act like i know the first thing about OCing vid cards, but have been reading alot about the XT and the 5950 lately and one of the things mentioned was having the OCing heavy on the vpu end and not on the ram which isnt always productive....i noticed only the processor was OCed and not the ram, maybe try both? i dont know.....just a thought...please dont kill me.

Scores will fluctuate, that is a fairly big fluctuation though. Were these runs back to back? Myabe try restarting between them ?

I noticed the same thing with my 9600pro, after a certain point performance degraded. I think Solid Necro might be correct. Also I would suggest to be careful as this may be a sign of pushing it too far. I think I have already destroyed my card, don't destroy yours.
