Default HELP new vid card install!

Guys i have a BFG 8800gtxOC2 card and when i went to install it i
noticed it has 2 pci-e power supply ports on it.
Do i need to put incomming power into both ports?
Also have an issue with power my motherboard.
Is an XFX 780i motherboard has the typical large pin connector which
is a no brainer. However the 12v power that is tpicaly a 4 pin or 6 pin on the
mobo is an 8pin on this one! My power supply does not have an 8pin 12v out,
Am i missing something???
Thanks
Hunter

Yes you need a power supply with a 8pin cpu connector and the 8800GTX requires 2 power connectors.

This would work good.

I haven't done it myself, but you *may* be able to get away with only one PCI-E connector on the graphics card. The card is PCI2.0 compliant, as is the mobo, which means it can draw 150w off the PCI slot, so you'd only need that second PCI power connector (in theory).

However, you still need a better PSU, and the one Slay just pointed out would do you fine.

Godling, tried that on a mates board with an 8800GTX, got some lovely coil whine from the PSU so I wouldn't try it...

Running only one power connector on your vidcard is a very bad idea.

The manufacturer provided 2, because running full current through one violates the maximum safe current draw for a single connector and or supply wires.

All about the various PC power supply cables and connectors

Then what's the point of PCI 2.0 having 150w on the PCI-x slot for power draw? It's *supposed* to allow you to decrease and / or remove the required external power cables that have been getting routed to graphics cards.

Pci-E

Thats even more unadvised, seeing as he stated that he isnt using the correct plug on the 8 pin connector on the motherboard.

Nobody likes burned hardware,
