Default Help with TV Out

So now that i've got my new computer I've put my old one downstairs and I've been trying to get TV out to work but its proving to be a pain in the ass. The video card is an Albatron Geforce 4 ti4200 128mb. I installed the forceware drivers for it using the autodetect feature in the nvidia site (93.71 i believe was the version). I've got it hooked up to the TV via RCA (Can't find my svideo adapter yet). So I got into the nvidia control panel and go to display options but it doesnt detect any additional displays. It doesn't give me the option to clone the display , just use the single display. Am I missing something here?

Sorry for the bump but I'd really like some help with this and I couldn't find too much on Google.

Question Re: Help with TV Out

Ummm - as I recall I just hooked up the TV out to the back of the VCR and it just worked. Xp didn't show an extra monitor or detect an extra display or anything useful like that.

Mine was a different brand...did you try just hooking it up?

I tried hooking it up to both the tv and the vcr and it doesn't detect. Appearantly it has to detect the tv to give you the clone option. Even if I do their rigorous detection and check off the detect tv on startup box it doesn't work and it gets unchecked after rebooting. I did some googling but it didnt really turn up anything useful to me.

Question Re: Help with TV Out

It's easy to test the cable - make sure it works ELSEWHERE ....

Then I'd say change drivers to something less robust like the disk that came in the package. How new is the card?

It's 5 or 6 years old. It could be that the RCA adapter is shot. Tried it with my mom's laptop and it didn't detect anything either. I'll have to do some more testing. I just thought someone might have got the same thing and know a quick fix.

Well I guess it is the tv. I tried it on our tv upstairs and it works. Is there anything you can do that will make a tv that doesn't detect detect?

What kind of TV is it? Maybe if you google for problems with that specific TV, you'll come up with some results.

I figure that if you're having that problem then atleast 1 other person has too. If you post up the brand/model, I'll help you look.

Thanks! The (non working) TV is a Zenith. I couldn't find a model number on it anywhere. also hooked it up to a Hitachi F371 VCR which also didn't work. Both these devices are probably ~10 years old. I also hooked it up to a Sony Trinitron upstairs which worked. Can't get a model # on that one either as I can't really get to the back of it.

Well I got it working. Turns out the connecter wasnt sitting in the tv out jack properly. I had to move the video card up a bit and screw it in place so the slot wouldnt block the connector now it works. Like all solutions it turns out to be simple in the end. Thanks for your help! Much appreciated as always.
