Default Raedon 9800XT MAJOR PROBLEMS

GOD DAMN ATI.....I just got the 9800XT and when i go to change settings everytime i press apply and close the menu i lose all my changes and it goes back to defaults...i even downloaded the lastes drivers but still no help at all... it promises 8x agp and i want that damnit!! But i dont know why its doing this, some have told me that i have not properly uninstalled all of my old NiVidia drivers and that is reaking havoc upon my pc. What should i do? Is reloading windows my best option?

you should also check your Jumpers on your mobo (assuming you've messed around with it) also, check the BIOs, make sure that you enabled 8x AGP......

what's your mobo? does it support 8x??? old mobo's don't luckly nForce 2 does, so if that's what you got...then it should work

if you did all that, then properly uninstall nVidia.. if that doens't work, then re-install windows

ok guys sorry bout language but im a little frusturated...
I have a P4 @ 2.2GHZ with 400mhZ fsb.
an MSI MS-6507 mobo
512kb of L2 cache
it says 3d Now! and 3D Now + and MMX+ are all not supported. At this point i dont know what to do. Now i recently downloaded the new ATI driver and it says i have to uninstall all of the ATI video drivers before i can install the new one...so im kina messed up. I think i will try to reinstall my ATI drivers and start from scratch. However i dont think all of my Nvdia files are deleted and that might cause some confusion. I uninstalled the program entitled Nvdia Display Drivers in the Add/Remove programs application. Is that enough or does Nvdia still exist on my comp? And most importantly, is my mobo to old? Should i upgrade and get a better one? Please let me know Thanks guys...you all could prevent me from unloading hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

I would start by removing the drivers, and use Det. Destroyer from Guru of 3D, there is one other removal tool under utilities there that might work if that does not.
They have some other good downloads for OC and Benchmarking there too
Are you using Direct X 9b?
Also try using a registry cleaning tool like Easy Cleaner (ToniArts)
If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall windows...

It would appear that your motherboard does not support AGP 8X.

ya putwig it said i couldnt go up to 8x, only 4...does this mean i should get a new mobo? Something like an 875P?

btw i have a P4 2.2 ghZ...what would be the best thing to do? The best Intel mobo for me to get?

--I looked at the Intel 875P with hyper threading..what is hyper threading and does it only work with P4 Extreme edition?

You don't need to change motherboards for your XT to work, although it does hinder the 9800XT somewhat. Your CPU FSB operates at half of what 865/875's run at optimally, so upgrading your motherboard is not going to help noticeably, without processor upgrade as well.

Try running driver cleaner to remove all nvidia drivers, then uninstall your current ATi drivers, reboot, then run driver cleaner again, this time to remove any ATi drivers that the uninstaller left behind, and finally, install the latest drivers from ATi (3.10).

ya thx techoid thats what i did and somehow i got my D3D up to 6X AGP...i dunno how b/c my mobo only supports 4x... but whatever. I cant use open gl either for somereason...every time i select it it just goes back to D3D. I turned off Vsync becuase i heard its useless and just causes lag. And i would like to know what i need to use the 9800XT to its full potential becuase thats the only reason i bought this card...to use it to its full potential.. any info would be great, thx

You mean 6x FSAA.
Use it to its full potential by turning on graphics quality settings within
games as high as you like, and enjoying the high framerate.

it says 3d Now! and 3D Now + and MMX+ are all not supported.

Those are featured of your cpu. 3dnow is AMD's version of MMX, and since you have an intel cpu it makes sense that they wouldnt be supported. As for mmx+, i've never seen s cpu that supports it. Not sure what it was. Maybe it was for the pentium pro's?

As for your settings not sticking, my money says thats a windows problem. You should try uninstalling ALL drivers, use a driver cleaner, and then install theones you want.

Too bad you perfer intel over amd.. You get the performance for less money..Ify ou can afford it then get a faster cpu and the mobo..The 3.2 gig would run you around 397.00 and the 2.0 would run you areound 275.00.. If you went with AMD yo ucould get a xp 3200+ for 323.00, a xp 3000+ for 205.00, a amd 64 3200+ for 419, or a amd 64 3000+ for 236.00.. Just some prices and options..
