Default Question about installing the Radeon 9800 Pro AIW

I'll be getting the ATi Radeon 9800 Pro All In Wonder for Christmas. I know it needs to get power from the power supply but my question is...

I've got six UV fan stock cooling and each fan connects to one another and leaves one last power cord un-occupied to keep the chain going in case I want to get more fans in the future. These fans get power straight from the 500 Watt power supply. Instead of doing what ATi suggests (getting power for the card from the hard drive) do you think I can get power to the 9800Pro from one of the un-used power cords from the fans?

Here are my system specs...

Pentium 4 2.4GHz running at 2.88GHz
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
Windows XP Service Pack 1
1GB 3200 DDR400 RAM
80GB Western Digital HDD

6 UV fans of what size? And if its all on one rail, you might want to put it on another one, such as the hard drive one, incase you might be pulling too much off of the fan rail. You probably could, and see if its still running stably. What powersupply are you using? I know its 500 watts, but that doesnt mean alot. Its all about the quality.

It should work, just try it and see if it works. If it doesn't then string it up from the harddrive.

You can also use the floppy drive power connector if you don't have a 3.5" drive. I plugged in my Powercolor 9800PRO using floppy drive connector, which doesn't have any secondary connections on my computer, and haven't had any problem.

Well Silent Assuming your Power Supply is a GOOD 500 watt supply and not one of them cheezy fake knock offs. I see no Problem in using the last plug...With the Radeon if it doesnt get the power it requires it will just make a loud annoying warning beeb like most system mobos when they are shut down..It eithier works or it doesnt .. That simple man..However that being said....If it was mine I would find a way to route the power a tad differntly..My Radeon is usually in the same chain as my CD-ROM.. Makes the wiring cleaner that way....since its right there Just a thought...
Peace

It's the power supply that comes with the X-Super Alien case. Here's a link...

The case with the fans....

The Power Supply....

The power supply surprisingly, altough cheap, has still yet to dissapoint me. Everything runs like a bronco and I've never had a problem.

Oh, and by the way, not all the fans are connected to one another like I said, I made sure I didn't do that actually.

I've got 4 fans connected right out of the power supply and two fans getting power from the floppy drive.

All in all, this means I have not only one but TWO extra power cords just laying around in my rig, waiting to be used.

So, what's the last word? Go ahead and use one of the extra power cords from the fans to give power to the 9800Pro AIW?

All the ATI cards I've had, that needed external power, was shipped with a pass through molex, and a lead to connect the Video card...power is close and easy to get to in that area...
