Default Rig crashing.

When ever i go to load a program besides aim/firefox my computer freezes then restarts. What would cause this?

specs

biostar m80 mobo p4 2.4ghz
512 ram
6800 vid card
XP

I have tryed reformating

edit
I unpluged my 6800 and switched to onboard now everything seems to be running smooth. The cards still fairly new. I was using the latest drivers on the nvidia site for the 6 series. I'm thinking this should be moved to the hardware section so if a mod would be so kind

What power supply do you have? If its working without the 6800 in the rig, then id suggest your PSU can't handle it.

14A = 12V, 34A = 5V, 28A = 3V. The rest = negative voltages.

I wouldn't trust that PSU if I were you. You might want to check out my thread over at Gruntville...

I wouldn't spend less than £80 on a PSU ($160). Something like this would do you fine. Not too expensive after the MIR and a respected brand name, the least you can do for your PC

But, before you go splashing money on new kit, id just make sure that it is actually the PSU causing the problem. Try to get hold of one from a friend, then see if your 6800 works. If that fixes the problem, go ahead and buy a new PSU.

Um... well I dunno what else you have in your rig, but 240w isn't much, can't you get hold of something slightly better just for an hour to test?

Holy crap, I personally don't think 160 bucks is necessary to get a decent PSU. I bought a Coolmax 500 watt from ZipZoom for $22 (I actually got a $20 rebate on top of that). So in the end I paid $2 for a 500 watt PSU that I have had for over a year with no issues.

Actually to be fair the PSU you used to have in your rig was only £60 Dex. Personally I wouldn't go any lower than that. But yeah, UK prices ftl.

Yes it was, but that was three years ago. My rig has been upgraded many times since then, thus the hike in money im willing to spend on a PSU
