| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Well I have a ti4200 and it isnt overclocked or anything...recently I started to notice during cs that when I would turn my mouse to look somewhere the screen would kinda shift over there instead of it being one smooth action...no net lag and fps is constant...this started to happen before I isntalled the new forceware drivers and that didnt fix it...it has never done this before and it has always run fine...the card will be a yr old in dec...would disablin agp fast write in bios help? I dont want to format because I would have to burn 20 gigs of stuff off and then have to reinstall everything...so if any one knows wut I can do to fix this it would be appreciated..also how much would turnin AA and AF affect the way the graphcis look in games? |

| Mystical Schwinn Guru | i havent noticed any problems with AA on my card, nor any improvements (though my gaming card is a 32MB AGP rage 128 pro GL w/fan mod) but my radeon 9000 did that once. if you moved the mouse real fast and looked like super super fast it did that, and i installed XP Pro, Cataylyst 3.8, fixed that problem. i don't know much about the geforce cards, just basing this off my experience with ATi cards. |

![]() | both AA (anti-aliasing) and AF (anisotropic filtering) help to improve image quality. AA will reduce "jaggies" on the edges of 3d objects and AF will make textures that are in the distance look more defined. the TI 4200 will probably play most games ok @ 4X AA and 4XX AF, whereas the newer geforce FX series can play games up to 16X AA and 8X AF without as much of a performance hit. My experience has shown that the GF4's took a huge performance hit when enabling AA/AF. Not recommended on those cards, unless you like a slide show. ![]() I'd suggest installing Fraps and keeping an eye on the real-time FPS monitor in the corner of the screen, and try and duplicate the problem. I'll bet you'll see your frame rate drop considerably for a second or two, then jump back up. Are you getting any artifacts on the screen? Is your system overclocked (not vid card)? Does it happen in any other games? Does the problem occur when you install the card in another system? That should give you something to work on Good Luck...

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | No artifacts on the screen...my sys is oced but it has been runnin together for about a yr now...I did kinda notice it happening in others games but not as much as in cs...and cs shouldnt be any problem at all for this card...I havent tried it in another system but I will later today...I will also get fraps and let you know what it does...Thx guys. EDIT: Well I installed fraps and man that lags me hardcore!! Drops my fps to 25 or so...but I turned it off and had just the fps show and the fps would soemtiems drop from 60 to 40 Also what I have noticed is when the fps drops the sound also glitches or pops...I have uninstalled steam and it still does it...any help would be appreciated. | Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Turning off AA and AF floating...Well I reformatted and I think its still doing it...I am going to check a few things and set my comp back up..installing files/tweaks/ etc. Anyone know what that agp fast write does in bios anyways? It has always been on so I dont think that would be causing the problem. Also AA and AF are set to configure themselves now so we will see what happens. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | First, let me quote myself:
Thank you for proving me right. ANYHOO...I forget what AGP Fast Writes actually does, and I'm too lazy to go look it up. What I DO know, is that it can contribute to stability issues. A lot of stability issues have been cleared up by disabling this option in the BIOS. Since you've had your system overclocked for a long time, you could just be suffering from creep...goes with the territory... [EDIT] have you tried your card in another system?

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | Ok I turned fast write off and still the samething...I tested a dif card in my comp and what happens...the samething...I tested my good card in a dif system and it runs perfect...so I lowered my oc from 200 fsb to 166 and it runs perfect with the card now...the thing is..what is creep? Could I be able to return my oc to 400 later on or what should I do? |
