The 9800xt would be what I would buy if I didn't have better use in the rig for the bucks. But like cpus, I never buy the latest thing. I'm getting a 128meg 9600 agp 8x next week. That should do me just fine for a while. My biggest bottleneck at the moment is the hard drive (Think Ultra 320 Raid 0 would help?).

Hell yes it would help...I tested it in my machine ('borrowed' from work a SCSI RAID card, and 6 72GB 15k U320 drives in a RAID0 for a few days and that was on the regular PCI bus...not even 66MHz... ) and holy CRAP my system was fast...it made THAT much of a difference...

I'm probably just gonna stick with my GF4 ti-4200 for a few... got a LOT of financial stuff I gotta catch up on.

Plus I'm signin' back up for classes (Aikido (complete your training grasshopper...), correspondence Bachelors (MIT/MIS), CCW permit (which requires 16 hours out here) and some other stuff).

Plus I'm tryin' to move back out, and nothin' happens 'til I get a job...

------End result of my freakin' life story-----

By the time I can afford to upgrade, PCI express will be out. Unless I get a REALLY sweet job (here's to hope!)

I'm gonna be using my Radeon 9800 that I flashed to a 9800 Pro for a good year or more, probably for the next 2-3 years; why? Simple, I'm 15, most of my money these days is being saved for a car that leaves very little for my PC... save the minor parts I plan to buy soon (HSF and mod stuff)

BTW, PCIX is going to be that small? wow...

man...®_type you need to INFORM yourself that the frigging 5900 is a WASTE of money unless all you're playing is DirectX 8 games...

I'm telling you you're thinking's a bit wacko if you're thinking of spending $250.00 on a DirectX8 card, for a DirectX9 game that isn't even out yet.

Even if it does play well on Doom, (unlikely to perform better than the 9800XT), the rest of the DX9 games run like sh!t on it (Halflife 2, Max Payne 2, Halo, et.al.)

So..."go ahead with ur bad self" and buy on speculation. I don't give a sh!t - it's not my money.

The radeon 9600 pro i think is the best bang for the buck. $150 bucks and it runs all the games i play fricking awesome. The fx 5900 isnt bad but go with the 5700 because it looks like it fixed the problem with the dx9 compatibility.

O goodness i can tell your not a nvida fan pimp joose. I just cant see buying a 500$ card that will be useless in 6 month's even if its has direct x 9 due to the fact you'll be seeing direct x 10 game's by mid next year. PS. Any thing's better than an radeon 8500le. And dont you think a nvida card would work better on an nforce chipset. Doh there goes me thinking again.................

I'm going to stay with my ti-4400 until pci express. Then I'm updating everything.

Not since they brought out their latest stuff...I'm a performance fan. Nvidia's graphics performance sucks for the money they;re charging.

You're the one thinking about dropping the cash on that forsaken GFFX - not me. Besides - that's the way the industry works.

True, that is a pretty sh!tty card...but why go from sh!tty to still sh!tty, when for the same money you can go from sh!tty to smokin'?

Uhh....NO. It makes absolutely NO DIFFERENCE. Ask ANY of the pimps here running ATI on their NForce boards...tuns without issue. If you want to be loyal to Nvidia, that's your perogative. I'm just informing you there's better options.

You said you were thinking about it, and I'm here telling you that your thinking is a bit skewered. Buy it if you want. Think about it if you want. There are better options out there.

Yes, I think the 9600 would be a better price/performance ratio. That's why I'm running the 9500. (9600 predecessor) I used to have Nvidia cards, when they wore the performance crown. Now, the only Nvidia product I would buy is their chipset. I avoid their graphics card like the plague, until they can topple ATI convincingly. ...and without custom code paths that degrade image quality and suspect driver 'optimizations'. Note ATI needs neither, and their technology is a year older than Nvidia's.

[EDIT] spelling

Well i see your point pimp joose. And a good one @ that.Dose the 9600pro play directx9 games well? Do you think the 9800pro will drop in price within the next few week's? And btw you might see that day very soon ( NV40 512mb ddr) we should see 2 to 3 more agp card's from ati and nvida b4 pci express put's a cap in agp A$$

I have the 9600 pro and it runs halo at 10*7 perfect everything the highest. Get the ATI one now anything from powercolor or anything they have slower clocks. Believe me when i say go for the 9600 pro for 160 its the best you can spend.

Looks like the FX5700 is going to be priced at around $200, which is my price bracket for a new card. If I decide to buy it, it will be my last AGP card until PCI XP is affordable.
