Default Geforce 6800 GS OC Problems

I returned this card to BFG not too long ago. They gave me a replacement, and Ive had it for a week. Ive just finished Prey (for the 2nd time...- Starting from the point where you fight your gf) and Ive been playing some BF2 Allied Intentions. Just recently it started artifacting. It was fine the past couple of days, but it started today.

It happened like this: First it would skip a couple frames and then freeze, start from where it left off and then freeze again, then the screen artifacted with black and white cubes. I shut down the computer and left it alone for a couple hours to let it cool. Came back to it and the screen totally blanks out in a game. I can still get into windows, but sometimes it freezes and the screen goes black. It did the same thing the first time it blew.

Is there anything I can Do before calling BFG again? Should I ask for my money back and get something else? (I got it as a gift) If I use a Aftermarket cooler, will it void the warrenty? Strangly enough, the card stays at 47C all the time, which I find impossible.

It seems that some Dark force Doesnt want me to run my computer anymore , or I have a cursed card. My computer is, Uh, 5+ years old. Yea, its a Dinosaur. Still I cant complain. Ive been to hell and back (and then back again ) and its given me a pretty good run for my money.

Just a note: I have 2 PSU's. All HDD's, Fans and CD-Roms are on One PSU. The motherboard, CPU fan, and Video card are on the other PSU. As far as Im concerned, there should be enough power.

Well, honestly in my noob opinion it sounds a lot like heating issues, or maybe just a crap of a video card... I've heard 6800 get hella' hot, but I couldn't say for sure.

Question though, how'd you hook two PSUs up?

I modded my case to fit two PSUs. They are totally independant of each other (meaning, I turn one on with a switch, and the other goes on when I start my comp). I really do think its an overheating issue, but im afraid if I use a aftermarket cooler, I'll void the warrenty.

I started it up again today, and it seems to be getting worse.

Unfortunately from what I've read using aftermarket coolers on a lot of things will void your warranty, I guess it depends on the company though. Is the fan still working properly? You may want to check that, if it is an overheating problem as we suspect. I'm wondering if maybe the OC has something to do with this, or maybe it's bad memory... did the previous card you had do the same thing?

Fan still ran. It still displayed on the POST screen, but once it got passed the windows loading screen (you know, where it switches resolutions) the screen went blank. My other one did the same thing.

Im just gonna call up and get a RMA number and return it. 3rd Times a charm they say! Thanks.
