Default 7900gt Dying on me...

IÂ’m having a lot of issues with my asus en7900gt TopÂ…I have read somewhere on the net that there was a batch of bad cards from Nvidia. And that it had something to with one of the components made by Samsung. I get weird textures on most games and today I got 2 blue screens of deathÂ… I tried down clocking the card using riva turner. Tried different driversÂ… I have a zalman cooler on it, plus heat sink on the memoryÂ… I hear that if you place a heat sink on the faulty component It will improve the performance, however I have no idea of where such component isÂ….IÂ’m saving to get a new video car since I canÂ’t RMA this oneÂ…but that may take a while. Anyone here has any idea how to solve this issue???? I would really appreciate the helpÂ… Thanks guysÂ…

Cheers.

hmmm I have been having a lot of issues with my PC but I have had my cards RMA'ed once due to another issue that was part of the process of getting it fixed and its starting to happen again so I may need to look into this... Good luck with yours... you may try just reapplying your heat sink compound to the die and resetting your Zalman... it may not be making good contact or could have to much and causing more of a barrier than a conductor..

I dont think it has to do with the temps. it runs at 43 on idle and goes to 52 on load....

Well I seen to have found a solution, to most of the issues...I have read a lot about faulty voltage regulator on early models, but it was hard to find info on were on the card this regulators were. I decided to just feel the back of the card, and found a particular hot spot (on the back on the opposite side of the output connectors on the upper side... I attached a coper heatsink using some thermal tape I had around, and presto! no more blue screen of death, Had atitools scanning for artifacts all night and nothing, and now I barely have graphics corruption on games... either way Im waiting to same some money and buy another card (8800gts, its the only 8 series available here). but I hope this holds till that..

Cheers.
