yes, so ATI has cheap card w/ the same core as their top of the line, that way they sell more, and make more money, if you have heard of someone not being able to get the pipelines to work, tell me about it, but the rumor that 9800se's are 9800's that failed inspections, is bull crap because if the card has bad pipelines, enabling them wouldnt work, PERIOD, for any card, and every time i've heard of someone trying it, though those numbers are small, it worked, and i think if people tried it and it didnt work, we'd hear about that too

if you are honestly ingnorant enough to beleive that ATI will enable everything thats in the card so it will perform the best it can, you dont know the computer industry, i mean look at the celeron, early celerons were just peniums with the cache size shrunken and the co-proccesor disabled, it didnt cost em any less to make, theres just a huge market in cheap bad hardware, but if the cheap stuff was good who would buy the expensive stuff?

the 9800se is just a cheap 9800, with stuff turned off so people will still buy the exspensive one- yeah there is a chance the pipelines wont work, cause they arent tested, but what percentage of 9800's get rejected

Celerons never had the fpu disabled. They had half the cache (because the full amount didnt pass inspection/testing) and ran at a lower FSB (66, compared to the p3 100)

Out of all the celerons Ive owned, they've all had co-processor.

As for the 9800's. Some part of it failed the qaulity program at ATI, so they disabled it, and are able to sell a cheaper model.

Look at CPU's. For example, all thoroughbred cores are the exact same (simplfing). Throughout testing, some chips could only run, say, at 1.4ghz, some at 1.6ghz, others at 2ghz safely to AMD standards.

Just to continue that idea, great OC's happen when you get, say, a 2500+ that COULD have been a 3200+ or beyond but got marked a 2500+ because more people wanted to buy them, supply and demand.

By that logic there will be some 9800 SE's that can beat out 9800 Pro's and there will be some 9800 SE's that just cant do it

ah you got the non pro version? Thats no fun, i hit 515 on the core with the pro version. If im not mistaken its the same chip just a heatsink and lower clocks. So get a ice berq 4 pro slap it on there with some memory sinks and youll be at 400-500 in no time.
