Default FX 5200 Ultra big problem

I just bought a PNY GeForceFX 5200 Ultra and put it in my Gigabyte GA-7N400-L1, it has 8x agp capability and so does the card, i am running windows 98 and after i load the drivers the display is just trashed, i can see my desktop and even play games but it looks terrible. i have the lates drivers and directx 9

Can anyone help me with my issue?

Problem 1. 98 on that machine. Run XP or you can't get your full XP rating out of your chip.

Problem 2. You got a 5200. You sir, are the proud wner of a DX9 GeForce 4 MX 440.

First, you really need an OS upgrade. That card may not even function under 98. second, a 9000, 9100 or 9200 would have been a much better buy, as ATi isn't screwing customers ATM...

After you redo your OS, I'd download the latest Detonator drivers and see if it changes.

Take the PNY GeForce card BACK TO THE STORE and DEMAND they exhange it for an ATI 9100 or 9200. The card *should* work with 98, but like KS said, you are bad,ly in need of an OS upgrade. Some newer games require the NT kernel now, so they won't even run on 98...

HAHAHA, YEAH
KayinStorm, i read my mind man.....down with 98, and that is the best explination for the FX5200 i have heard, DX9 G4 MX 440!!!
thats great dude, ok dude, take that Piece of sh1T back man, my Ti 4200 is better than that, i wish it had DX9 compatability and 8x agp, but yeah dude, take it back and get the 9200.

Wow, someone quoted me-I feel loved...

Seriously, the numbers are about the same. Valve even labeled the FX series DX 8.1...

well the card is crap, no matter how many times i exchange the card for a different one i will still get PNY's poor construction. i should have gone with the Ti4800SE on newegg, and thats what i shall do...

CPU: Athlon XP 200+
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-700n-L1
HDD: Maxtor 7200Rpm 80GB 8MB Cache
DISP: KDS 17'' .20DP
MEM: PC2700 DDR 256MB
nForce2 Chipset integrated sound, lan and USB 2.0

BTW I use 98 flawlessly otherwise, it runs all the games i have like war3, Battlefield 1942, Splinter Cell. because it uses such low overhead and doesnt exist when im in a game. im uneasy about xp because of all the systems that i see that have high end video cards constantly change refresh and flicker, XP doesnt use them as well as you would think

Sorry buddy, but here's more convincing math.

Athlon XP chips are designed for the windows XP operating system. If you use 98, you negate the Quantispeed architecture. A 2500 becomes a 1.83-effectively negating the benefits of expensive board and processor.

There isn't ANY good reason to run 98 on such new machinery.

Hi all
im a noob yes and not proud of it
i went out and bought a new FX5200 it was in my pc for 30 mins before i pulled it out and put my GF TI4800se back in i then took it back and got a MSI FX5600 TD256 and still its not as fast as my old TI4800se!!! So i will say with proof that the FXchip sucks big time and bring back the voodoo

P.s the FX5200 or the 5600 256 dont play halo that well but the 4800 will lol go figure

Thanks KS, I am looking into XP right now but have no way to get it putting out all this money for a video card but a ti4800se is on my list right now and it will be in my computer in a week. Im doing some research on Quantispeed architechture and i would prob get way better performance. I used the NT platform in Win2k and i have tried 4 times with it and 2k blows but xp seems like its means define the ends so ill be getting that soon. And it was my mistake for buying that card, the fx chip is really a scam GO TI CHIPSET!!!

Screw the Ti4800 - It's legacy technology now. Take the $$$ you spend on the 4800 and invest in an ATI card. FULL DX9 compatibility, and you'll be able to play Half Life 2, Doom 3,Max Payne 2 etc. using a full precision DX9 codepath, instead of the lower quality Nvidia custom codepath. The Ti4800 doesn't even compare to the ATI's now, especially since the Ti4800 isn't DX9 compatible. Don't shoot yourself in the foot because of a brand name. ATI has a superior part, with superior drivers. Period.

Wait a month or so, then get a 9600XT (or if you can afford it a 9800XT) and you'll get a coupon for a FREE COPY of Half Life when it comes out. Check it out: http://www.ati.com/gitg/promotions/halflife2/index.html

ok first off the 5200 ultra isnt a bad buy if you get it at a good price. It scores over 10000 in 3dmark 01, and something like 2000+ in 03. Not bad but they are still screwing us. I went to my radeon 9600pro and it plays EVERYTHING great. I imagine it will run hl2 and doom3 fine too. Go ATI they own now. Nvidias TI 4000 series card are still powerful just dont have dx9 capabilities.

P.S. The fx5600 is like a ti4200 dx9 capabilities, look at the benchies. Only downside is its pretty sad dx9 performance and price =P

man, my 9500 Pro does 12k+ in '01 and 5k on '03. For CAD$275.00. [EDIT] I paid that almost a year ago.

I stand by my statement.

And, I've got a hard-modded 9500. That's bang for the buck.

You agree with everyone about the FX..Its a POS card. Alright for DX7 and 8 games, but blows in DX9 games. My 9000 pro is a better card than that. I wish I could afford a 9600XT, I heard you can get the core overclock by 100mhz on those cards.

And it plays Tombraider halo fine! Unlike the FX series of crap.

Also, I beleive my 9000 pro is faster than the 9100...

Is that guy running a Watercooled overclocked super dual processor radeon 9800 pro or something? He makes it sound like 3500+ in 3dmark03 is an obsolutly terrible score. The more i look at that card though the more of a mistake it was. My radeon 9600 pro m,atchs all its benchmars just lsightly overclocked.

Im actually a giants fan, but since the marlins beat them, no other team should beat the marlins. Serves dusty right for leaving the giants. GO MARLINS!!!!
