Default Lower points with higher oc?

So I've been pushing my 7800gt to the limits recently, almost breakin 9k in 3dmark05. Then something happened, as I got the clock speeds to the max that I can w/out it crashing, my score dropped 3k!

Boy was I surprised.

Could be starving it for power! Or its just to hot and weekend it! I had a ATI X800 that did the same thing then i did a volt mod and left the clocks the same way and it came up 1000 Ponits!

Yup, sounds like the card is throttling back, try backing down slightly dude until you get a higher score. Not sure if the internal memory controller will be throttling the mem speeds, id try gradually reducing the GPU clock and see if your scores improve.

Its gonna be time consuming, so id do it in 5Mhz increments until its on par, then if you really get bored or need to push it to the absolute limit, increase by 1Mhz increments until the scores drop, then you'll know when you've hit your max frequency.

If you're actually right before the threshold where the card starts artifacting, there is a good chance that the performance boost you should be seeing is actually going to waste trying to correct the errors before you see them on the screen. I know it sounds like a shot in the dark, but it actually is more of a common occurence then some realize.

Matt

That is exactly what is happening, does the clock speed for the vid card report odd or stock speeds? that will be your first clue....
