If it's a Windows-based flasher (like ATIWinflash), you can save and open it from anywhere. I used that program for flashing my X1800XT to the "PE" version.

What, do you not have a floppy drive?

Ya know, if you don't have a floppy, I'm not sure if you can flash your bios. You might be able to run it through DOS from your desktop, but you'll also need the flashing utility located on your desktop as well. However, I'm not so sure that will work.

edit- Oops, Ator beat me too it... and with better advice at that

And you can flash your card to an X700XT as long as the card, in it's current state, can handle the clock speeds of a stock X700XT.

I know what the core was, but what BIOS? If you have a sapphire card, make sure you're using a saphhire BIOS. And I don't know why you're getting that error message. Maybe Ator can help you there. Sorry

Then make sure you get another PowerColor bios to flash to. (i.e. PowerColor X700Pro/XT 256Mb BIOS)

edit- ad you have to match the ram chips too. if you car has samsunbg chips, for example, then you need a bios that also features those chips.

The PowerColor x700 is Unknown memory, and the ATI x700 XT use's samsung, so i guess that wont work.

edit- If any one knows why i am getting this error from ATIwinflash. please let me know

Flash to another PowerColor BIOS then. Maybe that's why you're getting an error because the BIOS images aren't matching up. Try the "PowerColor X700Pro 256" BIOS.

Make sure you use the "force flash" option.

GDDR2 memory won't clock anywhere near as high as GDDR3, so I wouldn't recommend flashing it.

No problem.

Hey, there's a program called Rabit that can create custom ATI BIOS'es. I don't know where to get it, so i'll post it on my server when I get home from work. Be sure to check that out.
