![]() | I recently brought quite cheaply an ASUS EN6600GT with 128meg of DDR3 RAM at 1.6ns. The o/c tool that comes with the card only would let it overclock to a stupidly low amount, it was more like an underclock. So I got out coolbits and nvtweak etc and enabled the extra bitties and got the card to test itself, the results were mind blowing to say the least. NVidia drivers when setting up o/c said I could go to 575Mhz and 1.06 GHz respectively for optimal performance whereas it was 300/900 using the asus tools. Ive left it underclocked for the moment because I dont know what a safe temp is for these beasties, the panel suggests it can reach 127.c before it has to slow down - surely not... Your comments appreciated. |

| Apex Master Tech Apprentice | take that temperature and divide by 2 to get SHUTDOWN temperatures...overclock slowly measuring temps and stability (measured in graphics cards by the appearance of artifacts or funky **** on the screen or game). There should be a starting point and work your way from the stock settings to a point where you're not shutting down your computer after 30 minutes of gaming because the graphics card is overheating. The optimum point I would say is about 4-10 degrees over stock but make sure it's bellow 60-65. That's from a heat perspective...but other then that I don't know much about that card I'm an ATI many myself.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've read that the easiest method is to use the Coolbits mod, which is also applied through RivaTuner, to unlock the overclock features in the Nvidia drivers. Open your Nvidia desktop window and select the Clock Frequency Settings and Detect Optimal Frequencies in Manual Overlclocking. Once the process is finished, lower the GPU and Memory clocks by 10MHz each. With time and more exotic cooling measures you can reach more insane clock speeds. |

| Apex Elite Tech | WElcome to PimpRig, Enjoy the drama and all the computer goodness. okay O'cing a video card step one info: Did you heatsink your memory and are you running a stock cooler? If you have not Heat sinked your memory and your running a stock cooler, that thing is not going to last so long. I have a good and long history of frying my Geforce-4 cards to hell by Oc'ing with out the right heat gear and shoot that hurts the pocket book after a while. Those utilitys might work you may also want to look into some new non-Nvida drivers, helps unlock and over clock the card. Stay cool and stay safe unless you like BBQ'ing cards, which you may after a few cards.

| Apex Master Tech Apprentice | the software overclocking tools are useful, especially for avoiding artifacts and imediate heat problems...but if your ambient temperature is higher then 80 degrees F then you have to consider long term heat affects on a GPU as well. Most software overclocking kits work long enough to see that as a problem so it should be ok, but monitor your temps for a while afterwards and especially just as you exit a game.

![]() | If you going overclock your card, always replace the stock cooling... unless it is an exotic solution like HIS's IceQ II or an implementation of Thermalright's V1. And always clean off the stock thermal interface for some Artic Silver Ceramique. Depending on the GPU I might recommend AS5 or Nanotherm PCM+, but always use ASC on the memory. |
