| Apex Tech Fanatic | so i decided i dotn want to spend $125 for a water block for my 6600Gt card, as im not sure where this card will be going, or its compatibility with future models. but i do want to upgrade the stock cooling on it. so far for a XFX 6600GT people seem to be using the Zalman VF700, but i havent heard too much about people using the arctic silencer 5. any of you pimps that can provide some info out there on which would be better? |

![]() | well generally for the over all when it comes to HSF's for Videocards, you want to find something that has a reasonable CFM, and maybe have something that can be controlled either by a fan bus or a external bus i would recommend a zalman cooloer for the most part, im not sure what you have in mind for the model and make you want! |

| whaaat? wheaties? | Is it an AGP 6600GT? If it is, it has a bridge chip that might get in the way. If its PCI express, youll be in the clear. Ive actually been looking for an aftermarket HSF for mine, but none that Ive tried have fit. Luckily, Ive got access to a machine shop, so Im gonna make a custom copper heatsink that will cover the ram, GPU, and the bridge chip

| Apex Tech Fanatic | yes i have the 600GT AGP version. i stopped by microcenter last night on the way home from work and pickd up the Arctic silencer 5. well..... i will be returning it tonight because while the copper bottom matchs up for the memory and GPU, the pinout stands dont match up at all. there is no way to even remotely to get this work without modding it, which i dotn really want to spend the time doing it. i just liked the design of the silencer 5. but i will pick up the Zalman now since that is really my only option without moving to water cooled. |

| Apex Tech Fanatic | thanks for the link. the acrtic silencer 5 is not compatible with the 6600GT AGP card. liek i said above. i ended up picking up the Zalmans for 32.00 at microcenter. it works great. great idle/load temps. my only complaint is the RAM sinks do not fit without cutting them up. so i am currently runnign it without them installed until i find time to mess with them |

![]() | Let's revive this old thread to mention that I did manage to install an Arctic NV Silencer 5 on my 6600GT AGP, with some cutting & drilling. If I hadn't read this thread I wouldn't have tried it, although it proved to be not too hard. As far as I know I'm now the only person with an AC Silencer on his AGP 6600GT ![]() You can read the report here. |
