hey just wanted to see what yall thought about this. do you think the 512mb is really necessary? my friend lost cause (his competition name, one of the top hl2dm players in the world) just won one of these bad boys at the texas gaming festival where it was announced and shown, they havnt sent it to him yet but when he gets it ill try to see if i can get him to run some benchmarks

Already beat ya to it Personally I odnt htink its nessecary, but all the enthusiasts that have just obught a 256mb 6800Ultra/ X850 certainly do - means their card is no longer the best.

Im happy, means the 6800U 256 will come down in price. Maybe UTe2 will need 512, nothing now will IMHO.

I would agree with except on small thing..the video card industry has been doing paper launches for so long now, I find it hard to take anything they say seriuosly.

If they announce it today, that means it will be 2 months or more before the reviews hit, and then another 2 months before you can actually buy one. That is if they can make em in large enough quantites to count.

The X-800XT PE was made in small volumes for so long, people actually began to wonder if they existed, and I heard ATI discontinued it allready

well supposedly the ati lady told him she was gonna have it in the mail soon (he won it in a hl2dm match). ill keep yall updated and if he gets it ill either get him to bench it or let me do it when we go to the texas gaming festival in austin in april. hes rediculously good, he told me he was gonna win me something lol. he was apparently ranked #4 in the world at quake3 at one point, i consider myself good at ut2k4 and last time i played him he beat me 80-0, he gets head shots on people before i even realize that they are on his screen, crazy mother freaker

edit: my bad nev, i only read the first few posts on that thread when thats all that was there earlier today, and the x850 hadnt been mentioned yet. ive been getting really unlucky with posting stuff thats already been posted that i thought i had thuroughly checked earlier... sorry yall

im interested in waht it will do in 3dmark05. 128mg and 256mg make SUCH a differnce in 3dmark05 and im sure it will make a big differnce in doom3, but proboly not hl2
