Ok I was ocing my X700 pro 256 mb and I got it to 435/439 and I got no artifacts in garys mod or any
of my other games but when I played Counter strike source all the sufaces had a purple tint an them
I dont think it was over heating but if you think it was then whats a good cooler for it.

Umm...steve...the pink/black checkerboard happens because of missing texture files clientside, not OC artifacts. And for a cooler, I lean towards the Zalman and Artctic Cooling models (can't give you specifics off the top o' my head, though). Check both companies sites (www.zalmanusa.com and www.arctic-cooling.com) for their individual models.

Cooling is most likely the issue..........video cards heat up alot and due to the placement of the GPU on the card and then the relation to placement on the mobo. Example: ATX mobos, when mounting the video card have the GPU facing down which is poor for cooling as it tends to "craddle" the heat on the underside of the card. The exception to this is if you use a case that "flips the mobo mounting to BTX fashion. Getting a good cooler will help you in a number of ways. It'll help remove the "craddle" effect from heat being trapped, allows your GPU to run cooler and helps in keeping your case temps down.
