The overclocks you would get on a 5200 would be minimal and IMO, not really worth trying, although some may differ in their opinion. I still have my old 5200 but only use it as a backup just for DX9 capability.

I agree with Godfoot on this one, I have the same card. Its bascially a cheap DX9 card, I have Oc'd it to about 300MHz for GPU and 400MHz for the RAM but it still sucks! Save some money and buy a better card is really the only thing you can do to improve things.

Anything but an 5200Fx lol. I'm not that into gaming on a PC yet, but like anything it depends on what your budget is. Since you're in the UK you can spend anywhere upto £300. Basically read the reviews section of this site and choose what you think will be the best for you. then have a look on e-bay or dabs.com (or google) for the best price of your chosen card. Good luck and let us know what you decide to go for. If you want to over clock it then look for a guide on here (Mot19 did a brilliant guide for graphics cards).

The 9700Pro would make a great budget upgrade, about 2-3 times the performance you have now, and will play most games pretty damn good, way better than what u have now.

A 9800 Pro is a nice step up, but realy bumps up the cost (DON'T get the SE version, unless u are prepared to mod it )

Of course the X-800 series is the best for ATI, but is pretty expensive.

NVIDIA, go with a 6600GT, or any of the 6800's if you have the big bucks, just make sure you get the AGP version, not the PCI express!

The best buy right now is the 6600GT...I just got the agp version and it kills my old 9800 pro. My 9800 Pro couldnt handle DOOM 3 any higher than 800x600 medium settings. 6600GT handles it 1024x768 ultra settings at around 50-60fps. At $200 bucks, Its a great deal for the performance.

A GeForce 6600 GT will work for a while, but you'll definitely want another upgrade sooner than you'd like ( Unreal 3 will probably make minimum res mandatory on it). I think It will last for a good year if your willing to lower your settings considerably as new games take advantage and push heavy modification upon the HL2, Doom III engine etc. to trump every bit of performancce out of newer GPU's. By years-end, I wouldn't be supprised to see games coming out that mack the GF6800 down to 35-45FPS avg.

I agree. 6600GT is good for now, but those game developers just keep on going. Youre best bet is to suffer with what you have now and wait for the prices to go down on the higher end cards. If I could go back in time I would have bought a 6800GT (easily overclocked passed Ultra speeds) and got the extra pipelines, memory interface, etc.
