I have had my nvidia 5200 mx for quite some time now(about 1 year) and i feel that it isnt able to do as much as it needs to for some of the things i do. Can i OC it without taking apart my computer, do i need to send it in, what do i need to do to OC it at all.

Install Nvidia drivers and use coolbits to adjust the frequecy of the Ram and the GPU. Having said that I have oc'd my 5200 and not really achived very mch (I can't remember the specific right now as performance didn't improve very much. Its a budget DirectX9 card so don't expect a huge amount from it.. I think most people here will agree its not the best .

Do a Google search on Coolbits and if I find it I put a link in this post to direct you to the instructions.

(PS you can use Rivatuner as well if you want)

EDIT: Sorry to answer your question you don't need to open your case to OC it. If you intend on giving it a real run for its money then cut up an old P1 heat sink and get some thermal pad, then attach to the Ram chiops on the card (either that or buy them), this will require opening the case.

Look through the Pimprig forum I'm sure there is a guide to using Coolbits here somewhere. or

Good responce Human Traffic But if he thinks he needs to send the card in or open his comptuer to overclock his graphics card chances are he shouldnt be doing it in the first. He most likely has a crappy dell/compaq/pakard/emachine from the sounds of it.

Thanks tycoon. To be honest I had missed his bit about "..sending it in.." which should have just resulted in a single line response "Don't OC it".

On the newest drivers theres an automatic option - that should be fairly safe.........you could always go that route for a little bit of improvement, dont expect alot though.

LOL @ Tycoon and SuperSteve. I had to pick myself up off the floor from those comments.

EDIT: Okay, now that I have composed myself, let me get on with my post. I have used both Coolbits and Rivatuner to overclock my 6800GT, and I found that I have had better luck with Rivatuner. Not to knock Coolbits, just telling you that i had better success with one over the other.

To be honest with you, I wouldn't even worry about overclocking a GeForce FX5200. You'd be better off buying something simple yet that blows your card away, i.e. an ATi 9800 Pro. They're cheap. About 190 dollars, or for 9 dollars more get yourself an nVidia 6600GT. Both can be found at www.newegg.com.
