| Apex Tech God | Everyone always asks about overclocking their video cards, and how far they can push, and what do they recommend to overclock. Well I have done overclocking on a hell of a lot of boards (fx 5200, r9200, r9000, r9600, mx200, mx400, mx440, 9800, 6800, x800) You name it I have probably worked with it. OC TOOLS AND OVERCLOCKING First off programs i recommend, for Nvidia i highly recommend Rivatuner, for radeons i recommend downloading the omega drivers and using Radlinker. If you dont like omegas use rivatuner(Rivatuner can be found HERE and omega drivers can be found HERE . For Rivatuner follow the next few steps. Open Rivatuner and you will be greeted by this: ![]() Now click on the arrow circled above and next will come this: Now click on the card, the button circled above and finally you will come to this: Click enable software overclocking like above and then shown above change it to performance 3d. Now overclock 5mhz at a time on the core. Slowly keep going and applying the setting. When you get to about 20 mhz higher and its still running fine, nothing messing up go to your favorite benchmark or game and run it for 5 minutes. Usually if she holds well with no artifacts you can keep going fine. Keep going in that process till you reach a point where you start getting artifacts or it reboots. Then back her down 10mhz and that’s most likely the fastest STABLE speed. Next do the same for the memory. Once you have reached the max for your memory then run the core and memory at the Max stable (the max mhz - 10) for each. I recommend writing down the speeds, so you don’t forget. COOLING I decided to list the cards and the best cooler instead of a paragraph. Enjoy (Reminder, Artic Silencers are specific to cards, so order the correct one!) Geforce 2mx to Geforce 5600ultra: Vantec Iceberq 4 Gefore 5700 to 6800 ultra(excluding 6600 series): Artic Silencer Geforce 6600 and 6600gt(and 6200): Zalman VF700 Copper Geforce 7600 to 7800gtx: Zalman VF700 Copper Geforce 7900gtx: Arctic Cooling Accelero X1 Radeon 7000-9600xt(or x600xt): Iceberq Iceberq 4 Radeon 9500-9800xt: Artic Silencer Radeon x700-x850xt: Artic Silencer Radeon x1800xt-Radeon 1900xt: Arctic Cooling Accelero X2 THERMAL COMPOUNDS AND INSTALL For thermal compounds there are a number of ones available, but my personal favorite is Arctic Silver Ceramique and Arctic Silver 5. Ceramique is good but I would recommend spending the extra 5 bucks and getting AS5. Put a pea sized dot on the core, then cover your finger in saran wrap or a zip lock bag of some sort and smear it around until you get an even thickness of 1 mm about. If you’re using a card where the core is small (about 1cm long) then use much less but do the same thing. Then take some thermal paste and put some on your heat sink smear it all around but then rub it off with a paper towel thoroughly until all you see is the heatsink and it looks darker, almost like a little dirt. And then put on your heatsink and you’re done! MAX OC'S For those of you wandering how far you can push cards, here are some popular cards i have used and overclocked to the brim with stock cooling (keep in mind, using a better GPU cooler will usually GREATLY increase your cores ability to climb, as stock coolers are usually very limiting): Geforce 2 mx200 DDR: stock 175/266 max: 240/310 (64 bit) Geforce 2 mx400 DDR: stock 200/266 max: 235/310 (64 bit) Geforce 2 TI: stock 250/400 max: 285/475 Geforce 3 ti200 DDR: stock 175/400 max: 230/480 Geforce 4 mx420 SDR: stock 250/166 max: 275/180 Geforce 4 mx440 DDR: stock 270/400 max: 285/450 Geforce 4 ti 4200 128mg: stock 250/500 max: 310/610 Geforce fx5200: stock 250/400 max: 320/480 Geforce fx5600: stock 325/550 max: 400/610 Geforce 6600: stock 320/500 max: 560/560 Geforce 6600GT: stock 500/1000 max: 540/1220 Geforce 6800: stock 325/700 max: 390/830 Geforce 6800GT: stock 350/1000 max: 400/1100 Geforce 7600GT: stock 550/1400 max: 615/1620 Geforce 7800GT: stock 400/1000 max: 475/1250 Radeon 9000: stock 250/400 max: 280/450 Radeon 9200: stock 250/400 max: 290/440 Radeon 9550: stock 250/400 max: 390/465 Radeon 9600: stock 325/400 max: 420/500 Radeon 9600 pro: stock 400/600 max: 520/710 Radeon 9600 XT: stock 500/600 max: 560/680 Radeon 9800 pro: stock 380/680 max: 420/770 Radeon x700pro: stock 420/860 max: 470/940 Radeon x800pro: stock 475/900 max: 510/1025 Radeon x1800xt: stock 625/1500 max: 660/1580 Now all of those are from personal experience and vary from card to card. Don’t get me wrong even though some cards doesn’t overclock well like the 9800 pro, it doesn’t mean its not good, the 9800 pro doesn’t need overclocking to be quick. That’s all for now, ill edit this post a little more in the future with more card results as I overclock more cards. Good Luck UPDATES EDIT: Added 9000, 9200, and gf3 ti200. Soon to come are the 9000pro, and geforce 4 ti 4200. EDIT: Added 9600 non pro and Thermal Compounds selection EDIT: Added Geforce 2 TI EDIT: Changed radeon 9800 pro from bad overclocker to decent due to my new personal expiernces with them EDIT: Added Geforce 6800 EDIT: Added Geforce 6800gt and redid enitre guide EDIT: Added Radeon 9550 EDIT: Added Rivatuner Guide EDIT: Updated Cooling Section EDIT: Re-haul! Added 6 cards into Max OC section

| Still Duck's Hoe Though | Good post Mot. Maybe keep the list going as a reference guide, updating as yourself/members add higher o/c's and any added cooling if applicable.
