Default How far can you push a 8800GT?

I don't have much experience overclocking GPU's. I have an ECGA 8800GT with an Artic Cooloing Acceleo S1 with a 120mm fan zip tied to it. GPU temps are around 57C with the GPU2 folding running. This one of my main F@H Borgs. That is what it does. I have it cranked up to 682 for the Core clock, 1705 for the Shader clock, and 967 for Memory. How much more can I crank it without losing a Folding WU?

Temps seem ok for more overclocking, but I am in new territory here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

got it at 695 GPU 1737 shader 979 for the RAM... Folding nicely at around 57C...

And quiet.

I've got the EVGA 8800GT Superclocked Edition, so I don't know how relevant this will be. I've had mine clocked up to 725 Core, 1806 Shader, 1025 Memory without much trouble. I'm also rockin' an Accelero S1 (only way to fly) and I've got no heating (or sound) issues. My temps hover around 55C after a heavy gaming session.

I've never folded with this card... but that might give you an idea of what to expect anyway.

Overclocking for folding is a little different than for games.

Its important to get the most from the shader clocks.
For best results unlink the shaders from the Gpu and push them as far as your comfortable.

Overclocking the memory will only yield a tiny boost,so go conservative on the mem O.C to help reduce heat and increase stability.

Thanks for the info. I will play around more with the Shader clock tonight. Right now I have it at 711MHz core, 1777 Shader, and 1003 RAM. FAHMon says... 5316PPD! 57C!

Average OC of the 256MB cards is 732/983 according to the hwbot.org database. Which is pretty nice.

It doesn't show shader speeds in the average, but I would say if the core is kicking high speeds it can't hurt, Test with a few different setting with the unlinked setup like was recommended and with a high core and shader, I would personally test all the different setting I could manage to get running.

High core low mem, high shader low core, high shader and core low mem, high all three, high mem/shader low core. Your not specifically using the card for gaming, so its not as big a deal with artifacts (although I haven't overclocked anything past a 6600gt myself)

I'm planning on a new 8800GT but can't decided between the 512 and 1GB, But I won't be buying it for a while, so I might end up with a 9800GT when they get a new core.

I might back off the RAM a bit. I have it running now at 732 Core, 1816 Shader, and 1034 RAM. FAHMon says... 5529PPD! I think I will shut down the folding and see what a 3DMark06 does.

E

LOL, it will fold, do some interweb browsing, but 3dMark locks up in record time.

I dropped down the shader and RAM OC, got 12500 in 3D06 nothing impresive. Back to Folding for this one!

At 739 GPU, 1822 shader, and 1011 RAM. 5529PPD per FAHMon.

Still slowly cranking this sucker up! At 745 Core, 1842 Shader, and 1018 RAM.

FahMon says 5456PPD. So far no EUE's. 57C... this Accelero S1 is impressive.

This card is just happily folding away at 755 Core, 1855 Shader, and 1018 Memory clock. 55C freaking degrees!

Dang card is a workhorse!

FahMon says... 5529 PPD... Not to shabby for an 8800 GT! Now if I could get some use out of my dual core 3870 ATI card!

5604 PPD now according to FahMon.

At what point will this freaking card fail? I have it at 782 core, 1895 Shader, 1018 Ram, and it just folds away! 56C freaking degrees.

Got parts ordered for one of my other 8800 cards. Heck, if they are giving points away, I will take them!

787 Core Clock, 1901 Shader and 1018RAM...

At 792/1914/1018 I finally got some EUEs. Backed it down to 784/1895/1000. Will see if it folds stable at that.

Best card on the market is probably the ATi Radeon 4850. It came in at less than what the 8800GT originally cost and redefined value for money.

I find it fun! Not a very expensive card though. video cards have gotten very good, and affordable lately.

I agree on the 4850. Nice card.

I wish I could run those Acceleo coolers in my machine. I have a much lower overclock on the factory cooler and my card is sitting @81c with folding running. I have rivatuner making sure the fan is 100% but it doesn't seem to help. My case has some other airflow issues also and I don't think it's helping me any

I'm pretty sure I was reading somewhere that the max temp on the 8800gt cards is up over 100c. Granted I think I would panic if it came anywhere close to that.

The problem I am having (on top of cheap factory coolers) is that the northbridge fan for the nvidia 780I board blows right on the video card. I am working on a way of reversing that or at least deflecting the additional heat away from the card.

I'm running sli but I also have all of my regular pci slots filled. I can't run any cooler that is bigger than a standard single slot card design or my other stuff won't fit. I had purchased a pair of the s1 coolers when I bought the vid cards and I couldn't get everything to fit. Dang just have too much junk for one machine.
