Default overclocking my alienware NV go 6800 ULTRA

so... think its worth doing?

nothing wrong with the card. plays Supreme commander just fine even at high settings.
just wanted to screw around. used riva tuner thinking i would open up some pipes, but not sure if that is a good idea since this card might be actually different than normal cards. meaning the layout of the pipes and whatever else.

anyways, feel free to drop your 2 cents. i

PS, i have used nvidias utility to OC, and i think it works on this card. i have installed it and it reads the card just fine and detects clock speeds and all. hmm maybe i will screw around with that.

just bored here in iraq... god i wish GPN would get here to replace me!!!

I think the ultra has all pipes open. I like the coolbits utility for overclocking, it has not failed me yet. You may be able to push the card speed but I would keep an eye on the temps.

Are you talking about the laptop 6800 Go Ultra? I managed to get 200mhz on the memory and around 50mhz on the core. There are no extra pipes to unlock. And make sure you apply some AS5 before you OC, the stock thermal pads that manufacturers use are rubbish.

ATi Tool is probably the best graphics card OC utility, got my 7900GS much further with it than Coolbits would allow.

Can't go wrong with ATiTool, dunno if it'll work with the mobile 6800.

AFAIK the Dell cards are the only ones that have overclocking locked out from the BIOS - other than that, it should be fine.

Hmm I was rather surprised too! I've always used Coolbits for nVidia cards, and ATI Tool for ATI cards. The question now becomes: Does Coolbits work with ATI cards?

Erm....nope...because Coolbits is (was...) merely tucked away in the nVidia drivers, you just needed to enable it.

Ah, true. Coolbits points to a specific spot in the registry for nVidia...I remember wayyy back in the old days, when I enabled overclocking on a GeForce256 (I think it was) by manually editing the registry...before someone figured to make a .REG file that was a whole lot easier!
