Default 8800gtx & Fx-57

Im currently running the following config:
AMD Athlon64 FX-57
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
2gb Corsair PC-3200 2.2.2.5 cas modules
BFG GF7800GTX OC
650w Antec Truepower Trio psu

And Im going to upgrade to a BFG Geforce8800GTX OC. This should be more than enough Hardware for this video card right. Specifically the processor?
Thanx for the info.

ummm no... that proc is going to bottleneck the hell out of an 8800

but i guess it doesent matter when you are getting 80+ fps in most games anyway

its just that the card has the potential to deliver much higher

i hate to sound like a broken record but if you want no bottleneck get a c2d

Definitely. Even the c2d E6600 bottlenecks the 8800 somewhat if you don't overclock it.

You're gonna need more RAM too. Or rather, better RAM. PC6400 DDR2 etc.

Your PSU should be enough assuming it has two PCI-E connectors (yes, the 8800 needs two 6-pin PCI-E cables).

More than 2GB RAM? I'm quite happy with 1GB so I don't see where your coming from with that one (ie 2GB is plenty). Your systen will be fine, though it would be finer if you had a better CPU (ie a Core 2 Duo)

should see a performance boost from an 8800. Overclocking your cpu alot will stop it been a serious bottle neck (and the fx57 is still a very fast cpu).

For the money the 8800 would be a better purchase than the new mobo, ram and cpu needed to go C2D.

I say go with the 8800 and then invest in a good cpu cooler. Try to overclock and squeeze a little more out of that processor, its still quite fast!

I guess you read my post too fast or something...

But yeah, I'd advise on more than PC3200 DDR1 RAM. I'm assuming of course that he's getting an 8800 to play newer games on the highest of aesthetically pleasing settings, otherwise he could settle for an 7950 etc. The future proofing provided by an 8800 will outlast that of older generation RAM.

Well I'll probaby stir up a hornet's nest. But with a 8800 GTX DX10 card you'll want to
be playing DX10 games in DX10 so you'll be switching to Vista soon. You'll be wishing for
2GB+ of memory soon enough. The early bird catches the worm.

DDR1 400 and DDR2 800 is probably about 2fps different in games.

Thats why you will be better off overclocking that FX 57 so that if it does bottleneck ANY game... Itll be that you cant go over 80 FPS, which is more then you need.

no one mentioned that his single core cpu would bottleneck....

get a Dual core... opteron 165-185 and OC it 3.0ghz is around the max for a A64 system

even a DC A64 OCed will bottleneck a 8800gtx at high res with 16x AA and AF

at lower res and a 8800gts the difference is less noticeable and in some games none existent..

also right now you do not need more than 2gb of RAM... vista does like more RAM

but when you want more RAM sell you setup and get a DDR2 based setup because you can get 2gbs of DDR2 for $70 and DDR is like $130 still
