| Hey all. I have a friend at school who is dying to get his hands on my evga 7800gtx for a fair chunk of change. With that money, I am planning to buy a new vid card. I have my eye on the evga 7900GT KO, 7950GT and the Sapphire 1900XT. They are all in the same ball park, when it comes to prices. Based on what you guys/gals know about these cards and/or personal experience, which would you buy? Thanks in advance. EDIT: just thought you should know, I game at 1280x1024 (LCD restrictions). Thanks again. | ||

| Hey Nav, I would recomend the Newegg.com - EVGA Geforce 7950GT KO 512-P2-N635-AR Video Card - Retail mostly because of most friends I know who have upgraded from the 1900XT to an actuall 7950GT have seen a quite noticable boost in performance. So yeah! David | ||

| Thanks for the replies. Actually, I have a budget of $300ish CDN and the 512mb version of the 1900XT is a bit out of reach. But thank you for the thought. Here are the cards I have my eye on: XFX 7950GT Extreme 570mhz, 256mb, 1.46Ghz DDR3 for 273 (passively cooled) eVga 7900GT KO for $277 XFX 7950GT Extreme 570mhz, 512mb, 1.46Ghz for 334 (worth it for the extra memory?) All prices are in Canadian dollars and do not include tax, shipping etc. I am open to any other suggestions. Im seriously considering the XFX as it is passively cooled. Any thoughts? Thanks again. I have the evga 7950gt ko 512mb in my machine. I'd love to get the second one and run sli with it. I've ran it at 625/1600 gaming and benchmark stable with an aftermarket zalman cooler. The factory heatsink even with the fan really does limit the overclocks. That xfx with the passive cooling I would think would be even worst. | Sempr0n? | For a little bit more ($350 canadian dollars), you could get an 8800GTS 320mb, which is a much better choice than any of the mentioned cards. Newegg.com - Leadtek GeForce 8800GTS PX8800 GTS TDH 320MB HDCP Video Card - Retail | |

| Ok, after reading though your responses (which are greatly appreciated) it is a close race between the XFX 8800GTS 320mb for $354 or the XFX 7950GT Extreme 512mb for $334 or the XFX 7950GT Extreme 256mb for $273. Which would give the best bang for buck right now? Im really stumped...Thanks again. | ||

7950GT Vs 8800GTS - PlanetAMD64 7950GT vs 8800GTS - Video - PC Hardware The 8800GTS is definitely the better card - it has DX10 support for future-proofing, more speed, and also more memory than the 7950GT. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| If not atleast 8800GTS 320MB, then I'd go x1950XT.. Otherwise though, I'd definately avoid getting the 7 series Geforce (seeing DX10 about to seriously kick in soon).. Also to consider though, - R600 is coming very soon and the HD 2600 range is looking to turn up with a very nice platter of DX10, performance and price.. | ||
