You trading post frequenters [is that a word?] may have noticed me begging for a laptop for the elementary school recently.

One of my local homeboys came through - ALMOST....

Ive got a nice lil Latitude C here with no DVD drive and I've gotta blaze the OS to protect his corporate data.

So here's the deal.

I NEED a DVD that will fit in a Dell Latitude C notebook. Doesn't even have to burn, just playback. Might have Dell part numbers 96fcd, 522hd, 836CY, 086xx or 18THT.

I also need clean Windows XP home or Pro

In trade I'm offering nice stuff. Netgear switch. external Sony DVD burner. Dell PC [933Mhz class]. Viewsonic flatscreen. CD-ROM changers if ya gots it oldskool. No real mod parts tho - sorry.

Help me make this happen. Check your laptop inventories and let me know.

If you don't turn up any results here have you tried Craig's List? There's also a series of Yahoo Groups called Cheap Cycle; each state has its own group. You might check that out. Here are the URL's for those sites:

States with two words have a hyphen in them, like:

Lots of good help on the DVD part but I also still need a clean WIN XP HOME or WIN XP PRO. I'll trade ya a whole computer (!!) for one. With KB and mouse even.

On the WIN XP, I really need case, CD, as well as valid key. I don't want anyone thinking the school has a bootleg even if everything is kosher. There needs to be a certain "comfort level" for the non-techie folks there.

I mean - I have TWO external Sony DVD burners sitting loose ready to go. They fill the bill. But wires are involved and these people have proven that they can barely plug in a power cord. I love 'em but I wont go to Fry's with em - you know what I'm saying?

My dad works at a university so he might be able to get one. Otherwise I'll check around and see if I can't pick up a copy for ya. Also would it be possible to run Vista? Because you can still get that for free I believe (as a beta).

Vista would completely freak them out. Might be fun to install that first, watch the freakout, then install XP.
