![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'll talk about the CPU first. It is an AMD 3100 pre-production model for socket 754. It was something that AMD was playing around with but scrapped it because they had loaded it with 1MB of Cache. Seems the damn thing was performing on par with or better than their higher clocked CPU's so it never made it to market. An off the wall reseller happened to get one as a sample and didn't know what to do with it, so they sent it along with a motherboard we reviewed. I am sure there was a non-disclosure statement in there somewhere that was ignored, but the reseller has gone to the big .com in the sky. Go ahead and Google for it. All you will get back are hits for the Sempron. This CPU is quite unusual and is fully functional. I just pulled it this evening from my wife's rig. It hasn't been abused unless you consider Quicken and some cross stitching software abuse. I know I do. This CPU is very finicky about what components it works with though. I had quite a few marathon email sessions with mobo and RAM manufacturers trying to figure out how I could get it to run stable and kept getting the same answer, "That CPU doesn't exist so our hardware doesn't support it." However, I did hit upon a combo that not only runs it, it can even OC is a few hundred MHz. Included is an Asus K8V SE Deluxe motherboard, and 1GB of Ultra PC4000 RAM. I had initially run some PMI RAM in it but it was much slower. The Ultra RAM was the quickest I could find that would stay stable. The RAM has a slight condition problem on one of the sticks, I bent a corner up to see what chips they were running. Along with this base system, I am including an ATI 9700 Pro video card. Again, never been abused beyond what Quicken may do to it. I added the aftermarket RAMsinks myself. The pricing for the mobo, RAM, and vid card were figured using fair market pricing minus usage for a decent aftermarket price. The CPU is a different story; how can you value something like that? I posted here first to give ya'll a chance before it hits eBay. For you guys I will include an excellent Thermaltake Copper heatsink with a low noise fan for no extrra charge. I'll let the whole lot go for $453.71 and shipping is negotiable. |

Just because a mobo manufacturer says up to PC3200, doesn't mean it can't support higher than that with overclocking.. Anything higher than PC3200, isn't really considered a standard.

Then you have been getting screwed over on performance. Of course the board is rated for PC3200, all are. The Dual channel depends on whether you have single sided or double sided RAM and which slots you put them in. Page 2-12 in the manual explains all that. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| P'Hoe'toshop Fanatic | Hmm, perhaps I am getting screwed. But I didn't think that all double-sided ram modules were dual channel. I am running a 1Gb Ultra PC3200 Single Channel kit, and it's double sided chips, but not dual channel. oh and btw- sorry for crowding your sale thread, but i'm kinda confused here. |

| Apex Techie II | Socket 754 doesn't support dual channel, but that doesn't mean you can't run dual channel in a 754 board, it will just be single channel.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What Gig said. You won't get actual dual channel but dual channel will work. As far as the clock speed goes, you adjust the fsb speed. I had actually forgotten the fact that Socket 754 won't run dual. One of those cases where every time I learn something new, something old is lost. |
