Default WTB: Pci video card / sound card.

i think i have narrowed it down to my sound card being the source of my random lags and lockups in some of my games... i was playing hl2, and certain sounds lag up my system and stuff.. i use my nf4 onboard sound, and i tried an old sblive (the live was way worse).
im looking for maybe an audigy to start.. that will most likely then be migrated to my media PC, so i would like some spdif/optical outs if possible. but, i dont necessarily need a platinum or anything insane...

im casually looking for a decent pci video card. my dual p3 server has no agp slot, and with stupid linux and its bloated gui, my voodoo 3 just isnt cutting it anymore. ive seen nvidia 5X00s floating around, and stuff, and was wondering if someone has something reasonably cheap for sale. and, if you are looking for other stuff, i have some random things i could trade as well. this isnt as important as the sound card. (see above)

my isp mail is nswetland -AT- suscom.com but i dont/cant check it b/c i lost my password.
other emails are nate.swetland -AT- gmail.com

here, IM, email, pm, or telephone if requested. however you wanna let me know if anyone has anything.
thanks.

What's wrong with the Voodoo 3? Just not fast enough? There's a lot of optimized drivers out there for it, you just have to know where to look.

well, it seems like my webpages and stuff are chugging when i scroll and definately my screen savers and stuff chug.

i dont really mind all that much, because i do no gaming or watch movies or anything, i just like smoothness.
as of right now, it seems to suit my needs, and like i said, its not a priority, but if i could snag a semi decent card for a good price, i suppose i just might take it.

could you direct/help me find some of those drivers? i am re-new to linux and im still trying to catch up on just how to go abouts doing things.
im running fedora4, fyi. i am also attempting to keep with rpms as much as i can b/c compiling and all that stuff drives me crazy because i always tend to lose track of what i have and whatnot.
thanks.

Sounds like you might not actually have hardware rendering enabled.
Type glxinfo | grep render and post the result. The best choice for video cards under linux are Nvidia cards.

[krimson@analord ~]$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: No
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect

theres that. im guessing the "direct rendering: no" means no hardware rendering.
also, i agree with the best nix cards are nvidia, but since i dont have one handy, heh. you see my dillema
