| SOLD! Howdy folks, I have a heartbreaking story to tell, so I'm gonna give it to you straight. Almost exactly a year ago I purchased a Maxtor 300GB harddrive from NewEgg. I was needing storage, it was a brand new zooty drive with great performance specs for the time, and it was on sale...for $204. Once I got it installed, formatted and ready to load up...it died unexplicably. When I say it died...it died like Paul Rubens after having a stake driven through his heart in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie...with kicks, grunts and death rattles...though not nearly as funny. This happened within a single day. OK, that wasn't so heartbreaking as I've had stuff come in DOA or DSA (Dead Shortly After) before, so wincing with the minor hit of RMA shipping, I received another identical new drive. This one formatted fine...then pulled a Paul Rubens a couple days later, just like the first one did. To me, this was uncanny as I'd never experienced two of anything dying in a row like that, and like so much with PCs, it had me thinking it was my mobo, the SATA driver...anything but the impossibility of two identical drives arriving DSA. I checked out my system carefully and found nothing wrong. The Seagate SATA drive already installed has never emitted even a whimper, and the other two WD IDE drives are going on 3 years with no issues. Was it the PSU? Heat? I had no earthly idea, nor any explanation, so I let the drive sit for a while til my buddy that owns a PC shop offered to RMA it for me along with some other drives to save me taking a shipping hit again. During this time, he closed his shop due to his partner bailing out on him, but he did eventually get to trying to RMA the drive. According to him, Maxtor made him jump through a lot of hoops before agreeing to an RMA, and just today I stopped by and picked up a brand new, still-sealed-in-the-antistatic-wrap harddrive. After thinking about it for quite some time, I realized that I just don't have the heart to go through all that again. I did a lot of archiving and deleting to make room for the lack of this drive, so now it's really not critically needed. I have already lost quite a bit in time, cash and value (the same drive that I never was able to use is now nearly half the price) and would like to just take my losses and move on. I really don't know if it is an incompatability issue with my system, something I did when installing it, a bad drive series or maybe karmic payback for parking in a handicapped space in a previous life....no idea. With all that said....any Maxtor fanboys interested in a Diamondmax 10 6L300S0 SATA 150 HDD? This is not the same drive I had an issue with. The original (and the second, I believe) was a Diamondmax 10 6B300S0 SATA drive, purchased 11/23/2004. I am not sure what Maxtor's policies are regarding warranties on RMA drives, but in any case, this has either two or three years left on warranty, and as I stated before, is still factory sealed. Although I will hate your filthy guts for stealing this drive from me for the insultingly low price of $100+shipping, my heart is already broken to the point that I'll probably just whimper a bit and do nothing but ship it to you. As a bonus, it may pay a past-life illegal parking in a handicapped zone ticket, so you'll have that going for you...which is nice. My email addy is Wordbiker(at)hotmail.com, which is also my PayPal address. You may check my Heatware with the same address...which is pretty darned handy, eh? Feel free to check my trader rating here at PimpRig, and I absolutely refuse to let you be influenced by my position on staff. This is a straight up deal, and other than some colorful embellishment, all the facts are there. Please PM me with any cash or PayPal offers. I do not accept "dibs", though identical offers will be dealt with in order of PM. EDIT: OK, after all those views and not many offers, I will consider trades. Let me know whatcha got a deal on! I am motivated to sell since I just bought an LCD from JimsZ2R. Thanks, and have a pleasant holiday season. Erik "Wordbiker" Suttles Last edited by Wordbiker; 01-January-06 at 08:33 PM.. | ||

| I'll have about $130 bucks by the end of the week. I'm kinda interested, as I am in the process of backing up my dvd collection, and my 160Gb WD is fillin' up quick. Say I was to buy it from you, if it craps out on me, would you be willing to refund my payment? Let me know, thanks. | ||

| Refund your payment and take back a dead drive? No, I discounted this drive by $30 over what you'd pay for it new...and it is new. The cash difference and the karmic payback should be more than worth your time to deal with Maxtor directly if there's an issue. If I don't find someone to buy it...I'm working on sharpening a wooden stake... | ||

| Hey Sparky, I can print out an invoice from the first purchase, print out the RMA and I should be able to get something from my buddy on this one. AFAIK, Maxtor goes by the serial on the drive which shows the date of manufacture. My buddy RMAed it with no paperwork from me. I'll call him tomorrow and ask for receipts as well as any warranty info. | ||

| Hey Sparky (and everyone else) NEWS FLASH! I called my buddy and asked him about the RMA paperwork...there is none. Apparently anyone can RMA a Maxtor drive just by calling them and giving them the serial number. The good news for me and the bad news for anyone interested in the drive is...he wants to buy it from me. Sorry Sparky, but a cash offer trumps the trade. | ||
