I would suggest just buying a new one. You can pick some good 17" flat CRT's for close to $100.

I say invest in a nice monitor. They'll outlast most other PC parts. Plus, if you've got a nice vid card, you'll be wasting it on a crappy monitor. I just got an NEC MultiSync FE991sb. I'm diggin' it so far

Just look out for the aperture grill monitors, they have faint lines in them. This bugs most people, and can plainly be seen on light backgrounds. They are the best monitors out right now, but I'm going with a shadow mask Nec.

On circuitcity.com and I'm sure elsewhere, people complain of the orignal sony trinitrons failing after about 14 months. Sony does not make reliable products. This is proved in the Playstation series I'd say go with a Nec or a Samsung.

I bought a cheaper lesser known brand 17" flat screen CRT...think it was MagView, but not 100% sure cause its been painted a few times...lol...anyways the color started going to a pinkish tint occasionally after about a year (Or after the warranty period of course...lol)

It still works but the pink tint still comes and goes...I'm basically saying I'd just steer clear of this brand and probably all of the weekend bargain brands for a better model like an NEC, Samsung or Viewsonic maybe.

I didn't even notice it until just now, but you're right. There's two tiny horizontal lines on the screen. One about 2.5 inches from both the top and bottom of the screen. Still worth it IMO though. It's simply the prettiest monitor I've had the pleasure of working with

I agree about the trinitron... I use a 19" CTX Flat Trinitron with a built in USB hub... great monitor.

Powaman the same thing happens to my monitor just about every few months or so. it is usually between 1 and 2 weeks before it's back to running condition and unfortunately my warranty ran out about 3 weeks before the first time it happened. i believe the monitor is a proview 17oin. which i picked up last year for about $100 at circiut cty after an instant rebate.
