Default old misc. parts

ok here is the deal, i am still in school, and this week in my comp tech class, we are cleaning out a storage closet, that has some very old stuff in it, most of it is prolly 1980 ish. basicly any thing my teacher says to throw out we can take. most of the stuff in there is prolly of no intrest to most of you, (tape decks,51/2 flopy drives, large trasnsformers, large resistors and caps, old occiliscopes.). but there are some thiings that might intrest you, here is what i have seen so far,

Momentary Toggle swiches (these are pretty beefy, and are compared to a 92 mm fan. see atached)

some fairly new potentiometers( i have not looked at these yet.)

old mobos (from the days of the first intell to the first pentiums)

AT PSUs (good for powering extra lights, fans etc.)

pannel mount volt and amp meters.(have a whole box, any where from 1.5 inches to about 3 inches wide)

variable transformer (have not looked closely at yet)

Monster heatsinks (some as large as 4 " x 14", i think steel , some have holes for mounting to the old can transistors.)

roles of flat cable (not sure how much or howmany strands)

roles of regular wire (dont know if therse are being tossed)

old ac and dc fans (not sure how long they will last, being so old)

i am sure there are some more things there but i cant rember everyting.
we will be doing most of the cleaning tommarrow, so if you post by tommarrow morning at 6 i can prolly get it

i will be taking some stuf, even if no one asks for it, so if you dont make the line, dont worry i might have some more.

most of this stuff is worth less, and so i wont charge you for anything execpt shipping and boxes to put em in.

if i did not list something above and you think i might have it just ask and i'll get back to you.

i have paypal, i will get heatware soon.

unfortunatly i will not be able to ship anytthing for at least a week.

i know i am still a noob here at the fourms, and i know noobs dont usually sell stuff , so, i will ship first.

once i get the parts i will post picks so you can see what you are getting, if you dont want it , some one can take it and if no one takes it i will toss it.

also besides the stuff form school, i am selling 1 x 16 parrelle lcds, but i will be chargeing 10 bucks for these, and i can also wire em for extra.

Just remember, the line of 6:00 tommarrow, and hope that i can get it.

Do any of those old oscilloscopes work? If so I am definately interested in one or more of them.
If there are any that work, what kinds are they?

Hmm, you could make up some "Grab Bags" so to speak and fill em with odds and ends that might be handy...

Have you run into any old Apple or Atari stuff? I have been taking an intrest lately in "Antiques" that were around when I was a child in the 80's, kind of a cheap hobby since most of the stuff people would just throw away what they think of as "Junk"
There are tons of common items on EBAY from the 70-90's that can be had dirt cheap, like the SLI Voodoo2 cards I picked up for 25$.

Some rare items can bring a few hundred to a few thousand, like a signed Apple or the ultra rare Voodoo 5 6000 that people tend to bid crazy on when they show up for auction

I would also like to get ahold of an old Radio Shack "Trash 80" (TRS-80) like Ferris Bueler had in War Games (It want the voice module too!)

godfoot: there are a bunch of old ossicilscopes, i dont know if they work, and these are huge heavy monsters, like all steel, proll about 15-20 lbs, and rember i live in mass. i wont be able to carry them home so i will ask him to not throw them out untill i find out more about them.

necro: ill make some grab bags if you want. prolly with some meters, swiches, pots, lights, etc.

i know i saw an atari wall adapter, but i did not see the actuall console, but i have not dug into all of the boxes.

i dont think there is a trs 80, but you never know,

here is this weeled robot that is like 2 feet tall and kinda broken, but it has a numpad on top and a gripper coming out the front, but i am gonna take that, and maby rebuild it or strip it and put a PIC in it.

also check out the atached pics, i dont know what this thing is, its made of metal with a copper cap atached on one end, there are 3 wires coming out of it and the resistance over the wires changes, but i can not tell what changes it, i dont think it is temp or light, any ideas?

The weight isn't so much of an issue as long as a good trace can still be achieved on them, it would definately be worth the cost of shipping IMO.

Whatever that is, it takes me back to the heady days of playing with C4 and blasting caps and getting *paid* for it...

If you don't find any use for them, could I score one or two (depending on how many you have)?

Looks like a magnetic "Pickup" sensor we used at TRW on production lines.

Godfoot: i know we got a tone generator, and ill test em with that

GPN: thats what i thought when i first looked at it, but then i realised there was more than one wire coming out of it.

Necro: what is the magic pickup sensor?

I am not sure if a tone generator alone will be enough for testing them out, but I did find a nice PDF on troubleshooting any problems with O'scopes. Lemme know if you want a copy of it.
If those scopes are the Tektronics brand, I definately want one or more, the extras being to scavenge parts if the first ever goes bad.

A magnetic pickup will sense when it is near metal (Like when a part is at a station)

It will then create an "ON" state, so the next opertation knows that it can begin

A.K.A. It's most commonly known as a Hall-effect sensor.
