Exclamation Minimum Video Card for Doom 3

Hey Pimps,

Due to the tragic theft of my new 9800pro (and the untimely death of my trusty TI4600 Ultra), I'm looking for a good deal on a used video card to play doom 3. I am really poor untill the end of the year, so, I'm looking for something like a 8x agp 64 mb card, hopefully something directx 9 compatible or 128bit. Anything that will play the game will be considered. Let me know if you have anything that you might be able to spare and just how much you want for it. I'm not looking for great performance, I just want to be able to play. Let me know pimps.

9600XT or FX 5700 Ultra will allow at least 800x600 HQ.
Athough I suggest you at least save up enough to get a refurbished 9800 Pro ($149)...

Even $150 is too much for me...
I was looking for something that can play at 640x480, with all options turned to low. I've really only got a very small ammount of money to work with. I already spent a chunk last month on a new 9800 pro, but that walked off at a lan

Give us an idea what you have to work with then. Hell, I have a GeForce 3 that can run it choppy as hell on normal settings.

9600Xt For nice detail, depending on your proc it plays 1024x768 HQ very nice. 800x600 if you proc is slower. You can go lower, but you get what you pay for, possibly 9600Pro.

I'd recommend anything from a Ti4600 to a 6800 Ultra.. all of the in betweens will run it fine, except the 'tiny-budget' FX cards..

My old 5600XT ran it fine in 800*600 Med Details.

Arrow The good old days of the 9500 PRO...

Man you all left out my most precious cards, the ATI 9500 PRO....not the 9550.

A simple mod, there is even an article on it on PR in a way, you can get a 9700 Pro, and that will last you a good while. Yes, they do not make them anymore, but then again they don't make BH ram anymore, but you can still find it. Look hard and I bet you may even be able to get one from some local friend, or maybe a half off sale on some website.

I laughed at this ATI article... just say you screwed up already! You can't make 2 cards with 8 pipelines each and call one better! Plus the features are the same, down to the T!

Hell, 9500 Pro stock killed the 9600 se, and 9600 pro, the XT held its own. Where is that link, O well, I don't know! ATI discovered the problem with the mod and hense did not make the same mistake with the 9600-9800 series. You can not make a 9600 XT match a 9800 XT.

Edit...of I have done a search and I can still say that you can find these older 9500-9700 PRO cards. The prices are still high, go figure, but if you search hard enough you can find on for under 100. Here is a 9700 Pro for 189.

All of your suggestions are helpful, but what I don't see is people comming out of the woodwork with cards to sell me! Anyone have one of these cheapo cards? My system is plenty fast, but without a video card, it's sorta useless. I'm really just looking for a cheap used card to purchace.

i dont have a card to sell you, in fact im looking into one for myself to hold me over till the 6800 GT's coem down in price.

I use a ATI 8500 AIW and it runs Doom 3 aight on low details on 640*480. If i overclock it a bit itll do medium graphics or 800*600 on low.
If you can find a 8500 id grab that, shouldnt cost you more than 40 bucks. i got my AIW when it was 400

otherwise im definetly considering this card and should serve your purpose, very, very well.
for 65 bucks and can play d00m 3 pretty well and overclocks like a beast? sounds like a winner to me.

Dood, they are the same card for less money. Go actually get one, and compare overclocks. Read some reviews. I even went browsing on the futuremark site for 9600np scores. I have showed you hard evidence that they are the same. Members have agreed. I even got rep for showing you. Quit bashing a good, cheap, easy to overclock video card, and giving biased opinions.

Thanks.

I have a 5200 FX 128MB right now, it can hold its own when you have the screen in the smaller mode, but other then that...Good for other games though like UT2K4.
