Barebones Notebook?

Is there such a thing, other than the "Option" pages at Dell, etc...

If so, where/who is a recommended vendor?

Yes, I read an article a while back on it, your are kind of looking for a "Kit" to put together right?

ASUS has one, you assemble it...I wish I remeber where I saw that, it was pretty thourough listing the components and how to assemble it.

They got the HD, Memory, etc from New Egg.

That's exactly right. You'd think the OEMs would put more out, since there are countless barebone PCs.

I would be happy to get an ASUS laptop, but as they only market thru resellers, I need to find one.
