What kind of dumb question is that???

It's an INTEL processor, IDE drives, Radeon AGP card etc... it all conforms to specified industry standards. OF COURSE it'll work in other motherboards.

Then again, it is an HP. Not quite as bad as an IBM, but still.

I dont think it was a dump question b/c some OEM manufactures make their system parts so that they will only work in their systems, they call that proprietary, I hope I spelled that right too.

I think that helps against theft, or something. All I know, is these Dells at my school wil only work with other dell components. I took out a CPU P.3 and put in my mobo, nothing posted, but my board was fun when we but my P.3 in it.

My bad if I am not that up to date on manufactures, I have never bought a PC that I have not build myself.

The only thing that a PC mfg could make proprietary is either the motherboard or the power supply (or both). EVERYTHING else in it is off-the-shelf parts. Hard drives, optical drives, RAM, CPU, floppy, etc.

The only components (minus the little stuff) in OEM systems that are proprietary are the PSUs & motherboards...Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.

I worked on an IBM once that either had the modem built into the sound card, or the video card built into the modem.

Either way, it wouldnt take a NIC so it couldnt go on our network.
