Is this what you're looking for?

COMPAQ RESTORE CD: DESKPRO, IPAQ,& WORKSTATION, VER 1.8 on eBay, Other Accessories, Desktop Laptop Accessories, Computers Networking (item 170142940314 end time 03-Sep-07 15:30:08 BST)

Apparently it requires the OS CD as well though.

Default Re: Compaq Ipaq Restore Disks

Hello, I have several of the first generation iPaq computers(based on the 810 chipset) The first one I got had Windows 2000 and the restore disk installed several Compaq utilities. Most notable was a media player that used the media keys on the keyboard.

I moved all those machines to Linux and threw out the restore disks when I moved. I should have kept them, but I had a lot on my mind at the time. I purchased a second generation iPaq(based on the 815 chipset) recently and it came with a two CD set for restoring the software.

The primary restore disk sets things up and has various drivers. It lets you select which OS you will install (Win 98, NT4, or Win 2000) and the OS itself is on the second CD. Mine came with the Windows 2000 CD. This created a very generic install of Windows 2000 with no extra programs that I have noticed.

These CDs are not for sale, but I thought you would like confirmation of what was on them. In a separate thread, you were asking about CPU upgrades, and I know you got one for free. The second generation iPaq has a basic 815 chipset, not the 815 rev B, or an 815E. It therefore does not support the Tualatin socket 370 processors. The fastest processors would be the 1.1 GHz p3 with a 100 MHz bus or a 1 GHz P3 with a 133 MHz bus. Basically, any P3 with a heat spreader won't work.

There is more to this than a BIOS update. The Tualatins have different voltage requirements. You can actually put a faster CPU in. I upgraded one of these to a 1.2 GHz Tualatin Celeron. It works fine for me, but I get an error every time I boot. The BIOS is telling me it is an unrecognized CPU and I have to acknowledge that before the boot continues.

Most people would not want to deal with that, but I am doing it as an experiment on a third tier machine on my home network, so I can deal with it. Theoretically, I could run into a problem. The significance of the BIOS not having support is that patch set is not loaded for the CPU. If there are any significant errata which should be patched for my CPU, then I am not getting them. If you don't understand this, don't worry.

These little iPaqs are decent little machines. I use mine for low end media players and experimenting with Linux distros. They have been quite reliable. They only have a few more years of life in them, I expect. Needing IDE drives for them as the drives wear out is what will most likely make me retire them. Good luck

Thank you for the info. I recently was able to buy another Ipaq with the disks. I guess I was hoping for some other applications along with the generic drivers and only Windows installs. You know how they bundle other programs when you buy a new computer? I was advised not to go faster than 1 GHZ so I didn't. As long as they continue to make IDE drives they should work a while longer. A CD drive might be problematic. Thanks so much for sharing this. John over and out.

not to thread crap, but please break your threads up by paragraphs its easier on the eyes.

most of the included software on the cd is next to useless. the majority of items there are freeware versions.

As for the media buttons, with the exception of the user programmable ones, they can be used in windows media player...

I actually put my original post in with paragraph breaks, but the forum software decided to join it all together into one clump. Pretty poor design, I think. Apparently, some nice person with admin priviledges came in and put paragraph breaks in my text. They did not get it quite right, but it was a nice effort and easier to read than without the breaks.
Using the extra buttons in WMP has never worked for me, but I won't run any WMP newer than ver 6.4 because of DRM issues. I know that may affect things like this.
