| I want to know which of you crazy folders out there have rigs running multiple instances of F@H! Anyone who has a dual proc or dual core rig that is folding SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT! I know there are a few of you out there, and I couldn't find any thread that really covered this. If anyone has any tricks or helpful input about running multiple instances of F@H, then POST IT UP HERE! Here are the specs for my dual Xeon machine - 2 x 2GHZ P4 Xeon CPU's (20 x 100FSB) with Hyper-Threading Asus PC-DL deluxe motherboard 520w ATX EPS power supply (w/8 pin connector for mobo) Sapphire 9250 video card (temporary) 1 GB corsair PC 2700 (512MB x2) small 20GB IDE HD (until I can afford a set of HDs for SATA RAID setup) I also have an IBM Netfinity server that will be put into use shortly. Right now it has one PIII 667MHZ CPU. I need to see if the stepping is the same as another 667 MHZ I have around here, or if I should just go and buy a matched pair of 1GHZs to throw in it. I also has room for hot swap SCSI HDs, and a friend of mine might be giving me an SCSI RAID card to put in the beast. After I get the modding finished on the case for the dual Xeons, I'm hoping to throw in a set of HDs for stacked RAID 0+1, and reinstall everything (OS and F@H) in a timely fashion as to minimize downtime. I also have to impliment some kind of permanant airflow to my computer room to bring ambient temps down. That's about all I have going on with that rig at the moment. Funds are rather limited or there would be alot more going on. Hopefully I can make progress with my mods and post more about what I have going on in my computer room. OK people, let's see what you got! | ||

| I gots me what's in my siggy picture - The bonus details are as follows: The Processor is kickin it at 2.53 Ghz 1 300GB SATA hard drive 1 200GB SATA hard drive 1 80GB IDE hard drive and a minty fresh install that stabilized some issues I was having due to mistakenly installing the AMD drivers for Cool and Quiet (that stuff just ganks a good OC, it seems). I gained 1000 points in 3dMark 2k1 with that fresh install. But that's what I'm running 2 instances of F@H on, plus my backup pc grinding out one instance. D | ||

| 2 instances running on an opteron 170 @ 2500 Mhz with 2 gigs o memory. the folding servers seem to like this setup,I useually get 500 + point WU's. crunching a p2357 (852 Points), and a huge p2390 (1112 Points) right now. Sorry I cant publically list the flags, I'm beta. you'll have to join the beta team to get them. Hint,Hint... | ||

| Thanks to everyone for their input! I'm hoping this thread will make others jealous, and go buy their own folding monster. On my machine, since there are two CPUs and they are Hyper - Threaded, Windows sees 4 cores under the performance tab of the task manager. I have 3 instances of F@H running on the last 3 cores. If you right click the F@H core under the Processes tab of the task manager, the bottom selection says set affinity (this ONLY works on hyper-threaded or multi core PCs). I set each instance to its own core, and set all of my other programs to the core that isnt folding. I had 4 instances going, but I was having unusual errors. This setup works really good for me, and my machine throws out 3 WUs every 1 1/2 - 2 days. I have alot of modding planned (maybe even water cooling if funds allow) and after I get that and a fresh install done, perhaps I will figure out what the problem was running the fourth instance. What kind of cooling setup is everyone else using? I'm torn 3 ways on what I should go with. I could use some cheap heatsinks with a custom fan setup similar to what I'm using now. I can go with a pair of swiftech sinks, but they are $50 a piece. Lastly would be water. The whole setup would cost a bit more than the Swiftech air cooling, but would also give me lower temps. If anyone has any ideas, or better yet, is using a good setup, just post it up and let me hear it! | ||

| OK finally worked out the bugs on my server and I put a screenshot of 4 F@H instances up on my website. LINK HERE The task manager shows 4 cores, and I have each F@H instance on its own core. Usually have a game playing in the backgound on the one core, but it doesnt take up much CPU usage. Considering the cost to folding perfomance ratio, its by far my best folder. I don't think I would buy another one if I did have the money to spend, but after tweaking everything and seeing its folding performance, I am definitely glad I bought it when I did. Anyone else have 4 instances going? POST IT UP! | ||
