Default This stinks!

I finnaly got my desktop folding again and what size WU does it get??? A 250 frame one My laptop on the other hand recieved a whopping 10,000 frame WU!!!!! whoever assigns WU's is EVIL!!!!!

This may perhaps be the stupidist question I asked yet... BUT!! In all honesty.. can I weaqr out my laptop's cpu by folding too much? I run at no more than 75%cpu and make sure I have plenty of cooling.
I intend to let the desktop fold for as long as it keeps running without crashing.

As with all electronics, stressing them undully will shorten the life, but as long as you aren't overclocking the cpu in any form, or forcing more voltage through it than was originally intended, it's not going to break it down any faster than typical usage.

There are, of course, exceptions, so don't take this as 100% gospel, but I'm fairly confident that you could even kick the cpu usage up to 100% and you won't have any problems at all. The rule of thumb for cpus that I use is "if you don't artificially stress it, if it doesn't break in the first 6 months, it's going to last for years."

Well thats good, I'm actually treating it better than most laptop cpu's due to the fact that I got my chiller coil feeding it a nice frosty 40F air on the cpu intake.
I fell asleep one night and left the chiller on and when I woke up at 3am there was that cold "smoke" comming out of the laptops cpu exhaust. (like seeing your breath) and the room was 80F at the time. I think the glycol temp. was around -15F then, Definitly frost on ALL the wc lines and even the pump.

Anyway I have no options in bios to oc the lappy and I limit the F@H to 75%cpu so it's prolly less stress than gamming. from what your saying I should be able to run through this monster WU and get it over with.
(It's going on 3 weeks now and I'm only at 4776 pages of 10,000)

The thing that really agravates me is the frames are like 30 to 60 minute one's for the laptop but the desktop is getting less than 15 minute frames on a 250 frame WU??? ( I think stanford hates laptops)

Well some good news, last weekend I finnaly got my desktop folding...I've had it running at 80% ever since and completed 6 WU's!!! Yeah they were only between 250 and 500 Frames but atleast I'm makin progress. I'm intending on piecemeal finishing this monster WU (10,000 frames) on the laptop and if I get anothe big one, I'm going to stop folding on the laptop. Reason being... basically I worked really hard to be able to get this laptop and althou I may not actualy be shortening it's life I still want to baby it. without a doubt this laptop is the most valuable personal posession I have to me, I always wanted a decent laptop.

But have no fear I fully intend to let the desktop fold for.......ever! or until it crashes or whatever
at night I got the dasktop at 100% but during the day I reduce it to 75% so the kids and wife can still do their online stuff.
I'm keeping my eye out for a decently sized desktop (atleast 1 ghz cpu) that I can stuff in a corner and let it fold till it dies with no other purpose, Speaking of which does F&H have a dos version? then I won't need to install a version of windows.
Anyway happy folding!!!!

I have been folding on my Dell laptop for over a year 24/7 at 100%, no problems. I do not think there is a DOS version of folding, but Linux is free. And there is no need to reduce it to 75% during the day, folding shuts itself down if you are using the computer.

If you are playing a serious game, especially one using Open GL, shut down folding while you play. Test it yourself, put folding at 100% surf the web, or whatever, then shut down folding and surf or whatever, I do not think you will see a difference. Except for the folding points you gain.

Have a good one, and thanks for folding!
