Unhappy Linux F@H

Well I gave the cellaron 1.2G a Linux OS.
It is reporting WU's. it is keeping a log of activity.

How can I get a real time monitor like Fahmon to work?

I know nothing about compiling and the linux Fahmon says it needs
1) g++
2) wGTK
3) scons

I'm getting swamped with confusion overload just trying to find and understand what g++ is.
After 3 days of hunting and trying it's still NOT as clear as mud.

I installed ubunto linux in hopes that it would fold a bit faster. And it works.
However I have no way to monitor the progress in real time..
Always I must open the logfile to see the results.

The Fahmon home page gives install instructions but I'm not finding what I'm looking for.
It may be that in my Linux noobness I don't know what the hell I'm doing too.

The only reason for that Cellaron is to fold and I made it do that. Now I want to veiew its progress
without having to jump through hoops.
Is their an explicit how to setup fahmon on ubunto? ( notice to the public I will not hold my breth until one is programed.)

Yes that may be a tall order but the only alternitive is to revert back to winBLOZE.

Just now I'm thinking XP pro was not so bad and may defile that rig once more with win XP

SInce Ubuntu is based on Debian you should be able to just type as root "apt-get install programname"
Fahmon might even be in the package repository for that distro. Otherwise just apt-get what it needs and then I can show you how to extract and compile the source.

Depending on how much info you really want you can just use tail -f logfilename.txt

example, mine is tail -f /opt/foldingathome/client1/FAHlog.txt

type that in a terminal window and it will continually display the status.

Thanks for your assistance.

the tail -f does show me the % completed, however I would like to use the full fahmon program.

Using the new UBUNTU PC I have been able to DL and uncompress
1) gcc-g+ +-4.0.2.tar.bz2
2) wGTK-2.6.2.tar.gz
3) scons-0.96.1.tar.gz (the .deb file was DL but would not open)

I'm still having problems with installation of all of those files.
From googling It apears that I need to use "make" commands and "make" always errors out as no command.

apt-get install make should fix that.

Angry

I'm not sure its worth the hassle. (48 hours of bull sh!t) at least winDOEZ takes les time to setup and run.

while trying to compile the wxGTK file ldconfig can not be found and /sbin/ldconfig says there are no permissions. Google has lots of links but i have not found the answer.

Just about now linux can kiss my ass. The only reason I'm holding off on the XP re-install is because others can do it and I'm not letting this bitch beat me.

PS: this post is brought to you by ubuntu linux. (ha in your face linux. you have not beat me yet!

Edit:
ls -l /sbin/ldconfig
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 542864 2005-10-09 17:03 /sbin/ldconfig

So From this i can see ldconfig is there. but no pay day yet. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Did you do a minimal install or something? You seem to be missing a lot of stuff.
