OK! This SMP Folding is pissing me OFF!

Everything is going fine then BAM! it STOPS
I check the Windows Task Manager and look at the Performane (CPU Usage History)
FLATLINE! no Usage? WTF?

It has done this two times already

I had to turn back on the other F@Holding App that had 500pointers each

I will mess with the SMP Folding later tonight

Not till you mentioned it, whats up with the stats? They must be having troubles as I have jumped up 5 spots today and I know I didn't turn in that many points. My score and WU count is correct though so hopefully this is just a weird hiccup in the system.

As for the smp service shutting down. Sometimes mine will run for 4-5 days and complete a couple WU's without any sign of trouble. Then once and a while it will just drop to 0% cpu usage and I have to restart the service. It is kinda troublesome but I have gotten a huge boost in points from my 2 machines I'm running smp on. It seems to be related (in my case at least) with a windows fault. Whenever my machine receives a new ip address from the router or I reset my network connections folding goes down. I'm working on figuring out how to extend the ip lease time in my router and see if that will help.
I'm running the dfi lanparty nf4 expert and a linksys befsr41 router on the windows machine if anybody thinks it might help with their troubleshooting.

As a side note it only does this with my windows machine, the linux box that smp folds has never restarted or shut down a WU since I installed it a couple months back and it's on the same router as above.

you could try turning off DHCP and getting yourself a static IP. Unless it is when your ISP changes your IP...

That would have been really cool if we had people putting up those kind of numbers.

Though being number one is pretty cool too.

A lot of inactive users there, I am also inactive at the time, but as soon as i get my Pentium D 945 up and running, I'm gonna fold again, and also, has anyone else than me had problems installing F@H on vista? It tells me i need to be logged in as administer , which I am! and still it won't do it for me, otherwise i would fold on this laptop (core2 duo 2450). Also i had troubles with my Pentium 4 hmmm 630? 3Ghz 3 Gigs of ram . When I installed newestF@H it took like 7 to 10 days for a unit.... kinda pissed me off..

So what kinda numbers could i expect from a P D945 with 2 Gigs of matched ram at 667mhz?
Cpu will be running around 4Ghz and memory maybe close to 800Mhz...depending how effective my cooling with be....

Hey guys I am new to folding but it seems pretty simple to set up. My question is, has anyone gotten this to run on vista? I downloaded the latest version and when i double click to install, it loads for a second and just disappears. Anyone have similar issues or a fix?

I just got my laptop set up with an install of Vista (I'm testing out which programs I can use from my XP usage, and which ones I'll have to update) so if you don't mind waiting a few days I can test some things to get you a good little cheat sheet written up.

First off, tho, what version are you trying to run? (SMP, Console, standard graphical)

Always happy to help someone fold. Looks like there's some issues with getting the graphical installer to work in Vista . . . I'm gonna go sludging through the Stanford forums tomorrow to see if I can scare anything up.

However, if you are interested, I think I've got the console figured out to get it running cleanly under Vista. Let me know and I'll write it up.

Yeah sure. Anything to get it to run I actually have another question tho... on my XP machine I am running the graphical version (T2 has been helping me but I know he's extremely busy) every time I close the program or my PC crashes I am having to start my WU over. Not doing much to help if I have to start over constantly. Any advice?

I'm going to bed right now so I don't have the time to send you a proper writeup, (However, I did find this post I wrote up about it)but I suggest switching to the console only version. I'll pm you a quick walkthru to get you going on your XP box, and get you a link to the program (Oh, lookie, here it is!)I use to monitor my work units for my consoles. You end up running it as a service so it's totally in the background. Don't really think about it until I check my stats.

And that's the route I seem to be headed for the Vista version, too. Just too much pain to get the graphical version going, but I was able to get the Console to run and start as a service with a little trickery. I'll be posting that as a separate writeup tomorrow, as well.

On that note, take care, sleep well and all that. Power to the F@Holders!!

PS Thrash, you are, again, a Pimp among Pimps for helping Sn0wMan out. I'll try to throw some +rep at ya as soon as I can.

Okay I will check out that link. Does it have the same options like for example throttling down the CPU usage?

Almost forgot...T2 does indeed get all the credit for making me fold. Everyone that folds should throw him some rep.

There's a link to another post that I did that shows every configuration option the console version offers.

I'm going to make a post (And it's up!)about specifically setting up the console to run as a background service for both XP and Vista later today that should answer any of the basic setup questions (including how I configure FAHMON to keep track of all my three folding machines). If there are any other questions that I don't touch on, feel free to let me know.
