| Lol, HTRN. Ok, I checked out the flags thing, ummmm, I think I'll probably keep from making it go faster, because that will mean a hotter processor, and right now, my P4 3.02Ghz is running between 147~153 F... Idle is 122F. So, thanks ppl, with that I say good night, and happy folding. | ||

| *sorry for double post ppl...* Now I'm mad, I kept it running last night, but I woke up at 3:45ish and the computer was overheating, so I didn't trust it, so I cut it off, and now, it hasn't counted that work on the part where it tells you how many frames you've done, I had over 7 hours worth! grrrr. Is this normal? do they automattically save? Last edited by madxmodman; 25-January-06 at 10:51 AM.. | ||

| Yeah , it should have saved at 15min intervules, also , i run a dual core P4 and i have two instances of F@Holding running 100% 24/7 with no heat issues , so if i were you i'd look at your case cooling set-up and anything else that might be causing the heat problem. F@Holding does tax your rig but with proper cooling / air flow / intake-exhaust it shouldnt be an issue. I honestly dont know why your F@Holding didnt save , but i would try a reinstall, and when asked to change the advanced setting choose yes, and although you dont want to max out its running, you can set the check point intervule to a time between 5 and 30 ** i use 15 ** | ||

| Hey I have a question for all you F@H vets. Which F@H console are you all using, the PR installer or the one you get from Stanford's website? I've got the one with the PR installer right now, but I can't get in to change any of the settings. But with the console from Stanford, the program crashed every time I completed a WU. How can I fix either of these problems and which console should I be using (if it even matters)? | ||

| Ok, so I FINALLY completed my first WU ( protein p1136_p1130_L939_K12M_355K) But the fricking thing was 400 frames... when it started the next one, what does it do? It starts the SAME ONE AGAIN. *Bangs head against solid wood desk...* Is there any way to request a new one that doesn't take 4 days to complete? | ||

| No you cant request specific WU's. You can use flags to indicate prefered settings but the servers can only feed you what is ready. If you prefer smaller WU's make sure you DONT have the big WU's selected or the advanced methods flags. Also I'm doubting its exactly the same unit ,if you look in your log files you should see some lines that say something like ... Protein: p1136_1130_k12m_355k - Run: 438 (clone 30, Gen 2) the Values in Bold should allways be different, even though the listed protein is the same. The reason for this is because folding is so complicated your system only computed a very ,very ,small piece of the simulation.(maybe only a few nanoseconds) It will take thousands of systems to actually complete the entire simulation. Also remember different WU's run at different speeds, especially when an "Folding Event" is happening. (thats useually when two sections of a protein move into close proximity with each other) you may see a dramatic decrease in production occasionally,it's all part of the game. | ||

| Ok, thanks RBEIZE. I guess that I'll just have to do this one, yeah, you're right, it is a different WU... but it's still 400 7-8 minute frames. But, I guess that's normal for an older 3Ghz P4. The weekend is for me though, not much folding is going to be happening with my computer over the weekend simply because I might want to play a game. Thanks everyone, I will be waiting for my stats to show up in the siggy. | ||

| I cant believe it takes 7-8 mins for each frame. I run a 3.2 ghz and 1gb of ram and it does a frame in about 25 secs. right now im working on a 20,000 frame WU. I usually keep F@H off becasue it affects my games, so its gonna be like a year before i complete it. | ||

| Well, I did read on EXTREAMEOcing that TINKER takes longer than double and single Gs. Sooo, that might be why. This one is a 400 framer. which sucks. It did say on there that you could, infact, try to get a new WU by deleting everything except for the required files from the F@H folder thingy. I might just do that, I dunno... | ||

| Thats NOT advisable because the servers think your working on that specific unit. they have no way of knowing you deleted it . Later work units depend on the data recieved from previous work units to function. It's up to you ,but I'd just leave it going. what flags are you running? | ||

| I have a question about production, my laptop has been getting some really large WU's like Core_7a and DBGROMACS that have been taking it up to 4 days to finish, now I'm just wondering if it's possible to request/recieve smaller projects?? Thanks Oh yeah, I'm using the 5.04 console | ||

| Alright, I just finished with my last WU, and it came up with a send error, then it came up with a "getwork" error, I tried deleting most of the files in the F@H folder, and it still didn't work, so I reinstalled it, and the same problem. It says "Error: Getwork #1 Failed, and no other work to do. waiting before retry." Is this normal or is this something that shouldn't happen, at all. Thanks Youn's. *EDIT* Never mind, It works now...
