| i've been folding for a month or two, and i'll be darned if i can find info on how to update to a newer version of the program (i've searched, but i'm not turning up any directions). first: where can i find the version of the program that i'm currently using? second: how exactly do i go about updating? third: i'm going to be reformatting my HD sometime in the next couple of weeks, what should i do with the folding prog ( ie: will copying the folding folder to disc and then recopying to the newly formatted HD work)? | ||

| You can view your log file and it will tell you which version you are using. If you are using the graphical FAH version, right click on the red "flower" and left click on help. If you go to http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html You will learn the newest version is 5.02. | ||

| thanks...i'm assuming that this is the bare-bones console that i have : the version is displayed when the prog. starts (in the console). oh, it's v 3.24...guess it's time to upgrade ok, what i don't understand is what to do with the download. i guess what i'm asking for is: could someone please spell out the steps i need to take to update? i tried downloading the text only v5.2, but wound up with 2 copies of the prog on my computer (the new version installed me as an anonymous user). gee, i guess i should have titled this: "Dear Lord, i am clueless" thanks for your patience and help. | ||

| it's too early for me to tell if i'm getting faster completion times (so far it looks about the same). Why should I update my Folding@home software to the current version? We are constantly and rapidly improving the Folding@home software. We release new versions to fix bugs reported by the users to help make the project run as smoothly as possible | ||

| i had some probs with the new console (most likely user generated ), so i reinstalled the PR download (v 3.24). i'll probably try the update again after i finish the wu i'm on (about 24 more hours). ok, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it the FAHcore that does the actual folding? if so, what exactly is the benefit of downloading a new console? why not just delete the FAHcores occasionaly so that you have the most current core? | ||
