I noticed the Distributed Computing project is going to shut down. This is part of the message on their site. Go here to read the whole thing.

"We have decided to bring the Distributed Folding Project to an end upon reaching the 10 billion target on the current protein or on October 1, 2004, whichever comes last. We truly hope that our loyal user community keeps checking back for future distributed projects, as we certainly intend to return with newer and better ideas."

However when I click on the link - which goes to the below I see nothing about them shutting down folding.

Does anyone know any further about this - not gonna bother setting up a bunch of new rigs with that kinda time frame..........

No way, there definitely needs to be an official verdict on this one.

I don't think it has to do with F@H. It appears to be connected to Mount Sinai Hospital.

from the convos i've been in on the F@H forums, they've got definite plans for the future, I don't know why they would be talking about porting to different platforms and new code releases if they're shuttin down.

so get to foldin! I'm working on a scheme to get every computer lab at my college folding

man if they shut down folding id have to go back to seti, and not that seti isnt cool and all, its just that folding seems so much more important...
