Question Dual Xeons or Dual Opterons need help deciding?

I am going to build a system for a friend of mine and he either wants dual xeons
or dual opterons. The machines primary use will application intensive such as 3ds max6, PhotoShop, and illustrator and who knows what other types of programs because he is an animator.

What I want to know is what hardware will give him the best performance. I know that Intel has always been the king when it comes to application intensive use and that AMD has always been the king when it comes to games, but now AMD has been getting really close to being just as good as running applications as Intel.

What I need to know is will there be a noticeable difference between dual xeons or dual opterons and is it worth it. Keep in mind money is no object. Also there is some debate on wether I should go with Nvidia for graphics or radeon and which one. Please respond as soon as possible. Any advice is greatly apprecited thanks in advance.

There is no choice to make. The Opterons simply spank the Xeons in just about everything, besting the Itanium in places too.

Plus, it's somewhat future-proof, being 64-bit compatible.

Don't settle for old (Xeon) technology. Go with the Opterons, and your customer will be happy far into the future.

As far as graphics go, either the NV6800 Ultra or the ATI X800 Pro would be absolutely amazing. Given the 'no limit' budget, I'd go with the NV 6800 Ultra, and when the time comes, get another one and use them both in SLI mode. Please note: if you do decide to go this route, you'll need to get the PCI-E version of the 6800-U and a motherboard with TWO x16 PCI-E slots on it.

I would Go with the opterons. I had a dual xeon server setup at work that mysteriously got soda damage. I built a new server with dual Opeteron's and it pimp slaps the **** out of the old xeon setup

Very high-end, if I do say so.

Wildcat Realizm 800, accept no ATi FireBS or Nvidicrap substitutes. Totally pimp-slaps the 7210 all over the block

640mb GDDR3 and PCI-x *drool*
