Default Quad core setup

I should have my new PC running in the next day or so. I am going to run WinXP on it, will have 2G RAM. I was going to just set it up with 4 console versions of Folding.

Is that the best way to let it get it's fold on?

Set it up with the SMP client. My quad folds about 2400 ppd without overclocking.

It is installing XP now. Hopefully I can get the drivers installed and the updates on tonight and get the SMP Client loaded before I crash.

Got everything up and running. the SMP gives me an error on the WU startup. For now, just have 4x console clients going. This dang 'puter is quiet as heck compaired to my old one. I like it. Any ideas on the SMP greatly appreciated. Bedtime for me soon.

The SMP client can be tricky and sometimes unstable. In the last 2 days I had 4 WU's get to 100% and then tell me there was an error and deleted the WU's losing me 7040 points . But it's definitely well worth it. Keep trying

I get those messages sometimes, and I either delete the queue.dat file + the work folder... sometimes that helps, sometimes i re-install my clients...

Fred, "Core required: FahCore_78.exe" is the problem. That's old single core stuff. You can't install or run the SMP client in the same folder.

Thanks for the info. I got it running, well, more or less running... I get the 0.0.0.0 server asignment, so I am screwed for a while. I was getting around 1200 to 1400 running 4 instances of the old folding version. I will give it untill tonight, if no work assigned, I will go back to the old version.

Got home from work and it started working sometime today!! I have a 1760 pointer due in 13 hours or so! Thanks, I was about ready to go back to the regular folding.

I have got to get another one of these quads! I have 9k points so far including the borgs this week. Should have some better cooling late this week or next week, then the overclocking begins.

Don't worry Mom, I am not stepping on you, just quietly moving up a little. 'Bout time I got a million points. It is all for a good cause.

Hi Mom,

Been a while since we've e-chatted, but I hope all is well. Remember those letters we wrote to Vjay a few years ago? Those were the days.

Anyway, I too will be passing Team Lokie, but a month sooner than Fred (that means I'll pass Fred before that). But just remember as Fred said, it's not "stepping on" it's moving up a little. Since I started folding, my involvement was just for myself, Team PimpRig, the competition, and for the betterment of all.

That was my Competitive side of the story.

Mom, this is my personal side of the story: My mother-in-law was taken on Sept. 01, 2007 by Acute Myeloid Leukemia after only being diagnosed 5 months earlier and my father-in-law is suffering from Alzheimer's. As you can see, my drive to fold is not merely my love of competition, it's now also personal as is yours Mom.

Anyway, I'll be adding another Q6600 to my P4's and SMP P4 HT's soon to help keep our team from slipping away. Fold On Team PimpRig

I love it when someone passes me up. Heck, I want to be put down to the top 20, or 30! I also have my personal reasons for folding, so I will fight all I can to not get passed! I might get a few old socket A puters back folding for me. Something tells me team Lokie might have something up their sleeve...

See you in the top 10 EastwingMan!

Don't worry guys(and mom) no stepping on from me, im going around on an end run. I have a q6600 and a 780i mobo sitting behind me just waiting till I can afford some decent memory. I should be pumping the numbers back up again shortly to new and higher levels, and hopefully help boost our team back in a positive direction. I sat idle for a few months during my move and am getting ready for a good rebound.

I see good things in TEAM PimpRig's future!

Thanks for folding folks!

Got rid of a Socket A computer, but it is still folding for me, and looking at the bargain Quads...

Hi estwing,
Yeah, it's been a long time since we talked. I'm sorry folding had to get personal for you but that's why we fold. I pray not another Mother has to watch her son fight to get a breath for ten years.
Fred_G is going to hook us up with something, he lost me at AMD, but lokie will know. Yep, more WUs for us. So maybe it might take you longer to pass us up.

Love to all,
mom
