Just posting this for the Linux folders out there. And let me start off by saying my Linux is very weak, there could be an easy fix for this, not sure how to do it myself other than disabling the screen saver. And this is not an anti Linux post either!

Over the weekend, I have been fighting with 2 of my borgs, one running Ubuntu 5.1, the other Ubuntu 6.6(I think). Both would randomly lock up while folding, nothing, only option was to turn them off or reset. Both of these are Socket A on an Abit NF7-S board with an ATI video card. I did all the usual, heat check, PSU... Nothing fixed it. I did notice I could play games, browse the web and fold on one with no problems. Odd. I disabled the screen saver on both, and they have been working for around 24 hours straight now, no problems. Just remember to turn the monitor off...

On the Ubuntu forums I was told this was probably an ATI driver issue. I don't feel like messing with it now. Heck they are folding. So if you are having odd crashes on a Ubuntu folder, you might try disabling the screensaver.

Is the screen saver a added bonus to the new folding engine for linux?

I used the ubuntu F@H tar.gz file that was posted on the ubuntu wiki, alongside Protien think and some sensor packages. I had a F@H moniter, memory and CPU moniter, and temp moniter all on one screen. Plus since I ran from the live CD on the one box with a GB of ram, it folded faster than ever and all my settings and such were on my jump drive in case of power failure.

Never seen the Screensaver before, is it like the F@H fulscreen mode on the windows GUI?

Wow, to much Linux there for me! lol! The default Ubuntu screen saver was causing the problem for me. After disabling it, they are still up and folding.

Yea, i hear ya, Ubuntu is linux made easy, like the kind theyd sell on the home shooping network, if they could sell it.

As for linux + F@H, as much linux i know, i can't get the .exe file that you download from there site, to run.

That why after researching some guides i found the Ubuntu wiki page for F@H, its helpful much of the time. LOL

Side note, my borgs that fold 24/7 normally dont need screensavers due to the lack of display...lol

Since i pushed my borgs into one happy cluster using Parralell Knoppix i haven't been using ubuntu that much.

Dude, now you start talking more Linux! The cluster part does interest me, but is most likely beyond my Linux skills as of now. As far as the Linux .exe, just right click on it, give it all permissions, and then click on it to start. Yep, almost hopeless WinXP user here.

In my defence, I admit my weakness is Linux, but I am trying to learn...

PK is the easiest cluster setup i've found, its literally, live cd boot, click one app, okay a few times and then boot all the other PC's on your network (borgs specifically) with the same Live CD. bam it turns them into nodes for you and all you do is click yes after you've booted all the PC's you want, then run a F@H app on the master node and tada, you have how ever many GHz you systems equal working as one machine...
