Question 2nd folder set up?

My query may be beyond stupid...have a lot to learn.
I have a 2nd PC that I'm chomping at the bit to use for folding but my router is on the fritz.
The main rig uses USB from the cable modem; I also have an ethernet port on that one as well as on the 2nd PC. I've never done any networking without a router, so I am wondering if it would work hooking up the 2 with an ethernet cable or a USB cable, then using the XP wizard to set it up, or maybe I wouldn't even have to use the wizard.
Help appreciated.

I have never done that myself. Not to sure about the USB stuff. You should be able to connect the 2 computers using a crossover cat5 cable to the ethernet ports. I believe during the wizard you would pick the 'This computer connects to the internet through another computer' option.

Hopefully someone with some more experience will come along.

It sounds like the same type of router my parents used to have back home. It was a DSL modem with an ethernet and USB type of connection. While I was there for the summer inbetween semesters of college, I used the USB connection while they used the ethernet one. It seemed to run fine, but was sometimes slowed down to 2 computers using the same modem.

Not sure if it helps, but it might be worth a try.

Yeah lobey it's broadband but has the 2 different connections. Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I'm going to definitely try it tomorrow.
