![]() | I am currently using 5.1 on my asus mobo. Basically the plain old onboard ac97, soundmax garbage. Running regular 2 channel with some old speakers my audio quality was fine. But one i started running i found that when i use itunes/foobar2000/media player i get like a mid to low hum. And it only happens when my cpu is at idle. Anyone know wtf the sounds from. Ive used everything possible to eliminate it. Buti think i might have to get a pci card. I can get a soundblaster audigy ls 5.1 for 25$. Any thoughts are very welcome. Id rather save 25$. Also. When i play itunes and mute everything i hear the hum. Which is whats confusing me the most. |

| Apex Tech Fanatic | I would try the audio with a different set of speakers to eliminate them as the cause. Also make sure there are no power wires running parallel with your speaker wires because that could cause a hum. If it's not the speakers then your onboard audio is probably going bad. I would just get a cheap soundcard.

![]() | Thanks man. Ive always tried moving them away from ac and used de-magnatising "kablotknics" to try and remove line noise but no dice. I also get it running 5.1 with ym other speakers. Its definaltly onboard. Here i come creative soundblaster LS 5.1
